Heirloom Bakery & Hearth

Crema's Take
“Heirloom Bakery & Hearth is a spacious, aesthetically charming Kansas City spot where creative breakfast and specialty drinks take center stage—think gingerbread lattes, floral-kissed horchatas, and standout dishes like their mushroom toast that locals can't stop raving about. The kitchen clearly puts real care into both their pastries and savory offerings, from apple pop tarts to thoughtfully composed biscuits with pear compote, making it the kind of place you'll find yourself returning to a few times a month. It's genuinely family and friend-group friendly, with the kind of unhurried vibe where you actually want to linger over coffee and conversation.”

Very cute spot with lots of space to have a nice coffee/breakfast with friends or family. Apple pop tart was amazing! Gingerbread latte is also great! I’ll definitely be back.
I really wanted to like this bakery, especially because they advertise vegetarian options and flexibility with dietary needs. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been my experience. While there are vegetarian items on the menu, they aren’t very customizable, and the flavor combinations feel a bit odd rather than intentional. The vegetarian breakfast burrito uses marinated tofu, and the vegetarian breakfast sandwich has leeks, both are unexpected choices that didn’t quite work for me. It feels like there’s an illusion of accommodating dietary needs, but not much actual flexibility. As someone who doesn’t eat pork, I’d love the option to swap in something like turkey bacon or another alternative on some of their otherwise great-sounding menu items, but they don’t offer substitutes. Because the menu is so meat-focused and rigid, I usually end up avoiding this place, even though I’d love to support a local bakery. With a bit more thought toward customization and more approachable vegetarian or non-pork options, this could be a much more inclusive and appealing spot.
Scrumptious breakfast! We had the ham, fontina, & pear compote biscuit and the avocado toast. Mmmm the horchata was also tasty with a hint of floral and subtle cinnamon flavor. We let staff know it was our first visit. They were extremely upbeat, friendly, and helpful in pointing out the menus and all the fresh pastries and breads available. We loved the mid-century modern meets art deco decor too! It was not pretentious. Highly recommend. (Note: Prices are commensurate with the quality of food & beverages - Worth It!)
I would highly recommend checking this place out. A small menu with a good variety of choices. Had the mushroom toast and hibiscus limeade tea. One of the best mushroom dishes I have ever eaten, the tea was flavorful and refreshing. Honey oats desert was fire, bought four to take home. Staff was awesome.
I come here a few times a month and my favorite dishes are the avocado toast and the breakfast burrito! They are a lil pricey but the quality is superb! I love the aesthetic inside. The scenary on the patio is very pretty in the warmer months with the Vines and sunflowers!
