Crema's Take

New World Cafe feels like the kind of place where regulars become friends and newcomers feel instantly at home, with staff like Logan who genuinely seem to care about making your visit special. Beyond solid espresso work, they've earned real loyalty for homemade chai, impressively sturdy acai bowls, and a moist banana bread that breaks its own mold by skipping the usual nuts and fruit pieces. The outdoor seating, thoughtful touches like gender-neutral restrooms, and willingness to open their doors on off-hours make this more than just a coffee stop—it's a neighborhood anchor that gets both the craft and the welcome right.

A local place where everybody knows your name (because you ordered to-go many times, no doubt, but still!). They make their own chai and operate an exquisite coffee bar. Their fruit cups are legit. Usually open seven days a week!

Fast casual. Good quality. I was impressed my acai bowl wasn't totally melted halfway through even though I was eating slowly. Outdoor seating. Accessible. Gender neutral restroom.

Decided to come to New World Cafe for breakfast while I was in Durham NC. The food was amazing! The customer service was spectacular!!! Logan served us and was so patient and welcoming. We would definitely be back. Oh, and the hot cocoa….smh…words can not describe how delicious it is(with whipped cream) Yum 😋

What a lovely surprise. Was clean, upbeat, a reasonable walk from the Amtrak train station, and had great food. Was even open on a Monday when we were taking a train out of town. There is a nice outdoor seating area. They had gluten sensitive options available including gluten free bread. We had a Thai iced tea to go (great for the train). But I can’t wait to try their independent coffee shop options the next time I am in town.

Great coffee. Moist banana bread (note: their style of banana bread does not have banana pieces or nuts). The owner and staff were very friendly. I’m not sure why previous reviews said the shop was unkind to Black people. They were perfectly respectful and kind to me. I will be glad to return. The shop opened 6 months ago and still has a few kinks to work out. For example, the self-serve syrup is inside of a creamer jug, which makes it hard to measure how much syrup is being poured. Would love to have the syrup put into a traditional pump container. Also, the syrup container needs a label. 😇 The shop is located at the corner of Duke & Main st. There’s free street parking on Duke. Not sure about main st.
