Rooster - South Grand
3150 S Grand, St. Louis, MO
Crema's Take
“This bustling South Grand spot earns serious love for its creative specialty drinks (that Caramel Apple latte is a standout) and notably solid breakfast menu, with regulars returning specifically for the welcoming vibe and standout service from staff like Jake. The cozy bar seating and online waitlist option make it manageable even during busy Saturday brunches, though kitchen timing and occasional service inconsistencies keep it from being flawless. It's the kind of neighborhood coffee shop that feels like a genuine first stop when you're in town—warm, unpretentious, and worth the visit.”

Its tight space at the bar but didn't have to wait, so that was a win. Got menu and water quickly, however the glass had lip stain, so absolutely not. Took a minute for them to come back to me also, so much so that some overly talkative guy that sat beside me immediately got to order and I still had to wait 5 more minutes (great). I ordered the Farmer Breakfast (subbed the sausage/bacon for v. version) they opted to not season anything, the vegan sausage can not hold up mine if it tried (I could taste the sodium but not much else), the eggs were warm to cold, the potatoes were meh. The drip coffee was ok, but they just never checked back with me and I had to make deliberate eye contact to get a refill. That being said, I mainly came for coffee and whatever would come with it so ...le sigh. Overall assessment 2/5 not returning. But they are not worst ever, just my worst local brunch establishment; I could have made such a better meal with little effort, but I needed fresh air and wanted to try a new to me Breakfast location.
Waited over an hour for our food plus 20 minutes to get the table. Several other tables that were seated after us received their food before us. There were things floating in my glass of water. The Ketchup bottle had ketchup caked on the outside of the bottle. Potatoes were over seasoned and biscuits were dry. Food was not even warm when it came out. Also we overheard two employees arguing over taking a handheld card reader “I’m not playing this game right now, get your own handheld, just memorize your orders I do it every weekend”. Sounds like this place needs more card readers, kitchen staff and better cleanliness standards.
Stopped in while passing through St Louis- it was busy for a Saturday brunch but have the option to join the waitlist online which is convenient. I ordered a Carmel Apple latte that was DELICIOUS- I had the pork slinger which was an amazing conglomeration of toast, eggs, sausage and bacon with homemade gravy on top- it also came with tasty potatoes on the side. I didn’t know what to expect from a “slinger” but was pleasantly surprised -others in our group had the Pork Slinger, zucchini scramble (for the vegetarian). Rooster slinger and Farmers platter- all delicious! We all shared a strawberry and cream crepe for dessert. Parking was easy and prices affordable.
Anytime I come into STL, this will forever be my first stop! Rooster has a great environment, the best breakfast, & the people are so kind. Especially Jake. You’re awesome Jake!!! 100/10 service! I get the goat cheese, pesto, bacon scramble. It’s my go to & will probably be yours after you have it too.
The service was ok but somewhat inattentive. The zucchini crepe had a great combination of flavors (zucchini, mushrooms,Swiss cheese and onions) and was quite satisfying though not too filling. The crepe itself was really just a wrap for the contents. When compared to the crepes of a street vendor in France, they are unacceptable, lacking the expected moistness and texture. Regarding the lemon crepe, the lemon curd was excellent, however the addition of blueberries and granola/graham crackers detracted from the lemon flavor and added to excessive competing flavors and sweetness in a mediocre crepe. The coffee was excellent.
