Crema's Take
“This cozy Riverside spot has earned its reputation as a reliable neighborhood gem, particularly beloved for their matcha drinks that keep regulars coming back for that perfect balance of creamy and earthy. While their espresso-based drinks can be inconsistent, the casual walk-up window vibe and friendly service make it an inviting place to grab a quick cold brew or pastry on a warm day. The laid-back atmosphere and willingness to experiment with specialty drinks give Ivan's a charm that appeals to those seeking something beyond your standard coffee run.”

Cheers! Summer 2018 I experienced the Iced Matcha Green Tea Latte with soymilk, back when Ivan's at Hinderaker was a cool little walk-up window 🍵 🚶 Ivan's went under construction later that summer moving from the exterior to the interior of Hinderaker Hall, so pics I've uploaded to this location are from before and after. From the newly remodeled Ivan's, I indulged on White cheddar & white chocolate: I experienced their white cheddar mac & cheese in a bread bowl along with a white chocolate crème Frappuccino with soy milk. UCR campus closed March 2020-September 2021 due to COVID-19 and broke my foodie habit for a while. Fast forward to Spring Break 2025, the quiet campus gave me opportunity to hit up Ivan's for my AM coffee, adding syrup and oat milk to a latte for a dairy-free lavender latte. Lavender lattes are now a regular on the menu, I just need to specify oat milk, size and temp 💜☕️ It appears as of July campus coffee shops have moved to klatch coffee. I took home a jalapeño & cheese croissant and a kale & spinach croissant, and put them in the fridge for weekend breakfast treats. Not only did they keep well and heat well in the microwave, but they were tastier than hubs and I expected. The chocolate croissant and cheese danish are tasty options as well. I most recently took home egg & cheese croissants and egg & cheese English muffins against an ice block in my thermal lunch bag and put them in the fridge when I got home. They warmed nicely in the microwave for Saturday/Sunday breakfast, with added Morningstar Farms "facon" 🥓🥐😋 I now buy my plastic-free water bottles on campus as coffee shops including Ivan's carry aluminum bottles that are hard to find at off-campus grocery stores. No foolin', Ivan's was one of the coffee shops still open when students left for spring break, but they were closed at the start of spring quarter due to the AFSCME and UPTE strikes that happened on April 1, 2025. I stand in solidarity, so I walked over April 4 when I was back on campus. Fast friendly service, convenient for pick up orders and the atmosphere appears pleasant, especially for the faculty, staff and students located in Hinderaker Hall. The minor thing I've noted is the pastries and sandwiches are always taxed because it is assumed they will be purchased warmed up. Also even when hot drinks have a nice secure lid they are rarely filled to the top, whether I order a regular or large. I wouldn't mind a really full coffee for that extra sip, as I drink coffee all day every day and I'm used to walking back to the office with caution when I have coffee in hand.
I ordered 2 caramel frappes and one tasted like pure milk and the other tasted straight bitter. Granted they both had espresso but 1 shot of espresso on a caramel frappe should not taste like pure black coffee mixed with water. HORRIBLE!!! I just got it like 5 minutes ago too! Had to go straight to the trash!
