Hotel La Fonda de Taos
108 S Plaza, Taos, NM
Crema's Take
“Nestled right on Taos Plaza, this historic hotel's cafe captures the essence of gathering in this storied New Mexico town, where locals and travelers mingle over traditional drinks in a wonderfully social atmosphere. The Plaza-front location puts you steps from galleries and shops, with a convivial upstairs lounge that's perfect for lingering conversations and meeting new people. Come here for the unbeatable sense of place and community rather than polished luxury—it's authentic Taos hospitality at its most unpretentious.”

Love the location on the Plaza. Plenty of food choices and shopping. Rooms are adequate staff is friendly and helpful. It is as described historic hotel. Don't expect luxury. It's comfortable and lived in. I would recommend. I feel grateful I was able to enjoy the history and arts just by walking out the front door.
We stayed there last night. It was okay. I couldn't get my wi-fi to work in our room and the front desk person wasn't really helpful. We were facing the Plaza, and the noise of the traffic and police cars was loud. It did quiet down some later on. I went to look at the display of DH Lawrence paintings and listened to the 10 minute audio about him. Kind of an odd guy but interesting. The room was clean and pleasant.
An Unforgettable Stay Where History Meets Hospitality. If you are looking for the quintessential Taos experience, look no further than Hotel La Fonda de Taos. From the moment I stepped off the historic Plaza and into the lobby, I felt like I had been transported to a more gracious, enchanting era. You simply cannot beat this location. Being right on the Taos Plaza means you are seconds away from the best galleries, shops, and restaurants the town has to offer. Despite being in the center of the action, the hotel itself felt like a serene sanctuary—a quiet, adobe-walled retreat from the world.
The hotel is located near many galleries and stores. The hotel was actually ok, not great just ok. The trouble is the noise which they can’t control. Starting at around 9:00pm every night, the locals rev their engines on the plaza until sometime 2:00am. If you don’t bring ear plugs, you won’t get any sleep! Apparently they don’t have a noise ordinance in Taos., but they need one! I wish the local car culture would grow up and realize that being macho isn’t about revving your cars all night long and drag racing in the plaza. Don’t get a room overlooking the plaza, the noise is unbearable.
Perfect location as we could walk everywhere! Wonderful lounge on the second floor for gathering our friends and family. Met so many interesting people from all over. Very friendly and the staff was accommodating to our various needs. Rustic 200 year-old charm and clean! Our group was very happy with our stay and I hope to return there soon.
