Herst Coffee Roasters
3400 Via Lido, Laguna Beach, CA
Crema's Take
“Herst Coffee Roasters roasts their beans in-house in this intimate Laguna Beach spot, earning genuine respect from serious coffee enthusiasts and casual visitors alike. Their Spanish latte—balanced with just the right touch of cinnamon and sweetened condensed milk—is a signature draw, though the cozy, minimal-seating atmosphere seems to matter just as much as the coffee itself. Fair warning: there's no WiFi here, which appears to be intentional, making it a place where you'll actually be present rather than plugged in.”

Iced Spanish latte is great! Not too much cinnamon and just the right amount of sweetness from the sweetened condensed milk. There isn’t WiFi and there’s not tons of seating inside but it’s a beautiful cafe with a lovely location
Herst Coffee Roasters in Lido has a great location, and their drip coffee tastes fresh and quite good. However, a few things really took away from the experience. The automated phone message says the first hour of garage parking is free, but it turns out it’s only free after validation — and surprisingly, they refused to validate. The café was very crowded and loud, and several tables were not very clean. Overall, good coffee and location, but the noise, cleanliness, and parking situation were disappointing.
Our go to! They roast in-house so you know it'll be good.My husband is a coffee snob, roasts his own beans (owns a roaster /commercials espresso gear) he loves it here. We like their pastries too….cinnamon & cardamom type danish & the sourdough croissant was so good.
Every time I visit Newport, I make sure to stop by Herst Coffee Roasters. It’s my go-to spot—not just for the coffee but for the cozy atmosphere that makes me want to stay a little longer. Their coffee is bold and strong, just the way I like it. Even though I usually love cappuccinos, I always go for a latte here because their espresso has such a rich, intense flavor. Bakery is a little salty for my taste. If you’re visiting in the winter, the best time to sit outside is between 9 AM and 11 AM—still sunny and warm, perfect for enjoying your coffee. Definitely a must-visit!
Stopped here to work remotely for the day. The Spanish Oat Latte is heavenly and not too sweet. I also got the Pain au Chocolate which was great as well. One thing to mention is that this cafe does NOT have WiFi. The atmosphere is very relaxed and upscale. Staff are friendly and helpful for the most part. If you are coming with a large group, please be kind and patient - staff includes about 3-4 people efficiently juggling orders. Seating includes a few tables inside (maybe 2 outlets?) but this weather is amazing so I would recommend the outdoor seating (no outlets). It’s not my top recommendation for remote work, but it is a great cafe to visit for the atmosphere and lattes. Super cute area with upscale shopping.
