Crema's Take

This historic downtown district is more of a charming village hub than a single coffee destination, offering vintage shops and local eateries scattered along walkable streets with genuine character rather than cookie-cutter tourism. If you're looking for serious specialty coffee, you'll want to scope out individual roasters in the area, but if you value a cozy, slow-paced afternoon of browsing local boutiques and cafes alongside your coffee, Truckee's downtown is absolutely worth the detour. Just plan to arrive before 6pm, since these shops tend to close early.

What to expect

Classic coffee drinks done right. A slow-sit, laptop-friendly, outdoor seating spot, good for meetings. Family friendly.

Very quaint down with an assortment of eateries and cute shops inside of historical buildings. Tahoe Oil & Spice was a wonderful experience. The woman working was so delightful and helpful. Downtown Truckee is a great place for an afternoon stroll and window shopping.

Quiet and quaint little town that is big part of California's history. Lots of unique local foods, beer, desserts, and specialty gift shops to explore and experience.

A must visit historic city. As part of our trip to South Lake Tahoe, I visited it earlier in 2014 and enjoyed the side shopping at that time. In 2025, we crossed the city during early morning for having breakfast at around 6 am, in one of their greatest cafe restaurants. They…
