Crema's Take

Tucked into the charming Crestline Village in Mountain Brook, this coffee and bookshop hybrid feels like a beloved neighbor's living room, complete with cozy nooks perfect for curling up with a book or laptop. They pour Nonfiction Coffee alongside creative signature drinks and excellent pastries, striking that rare balance between quiet enough for focused work and welcoming enough for genuine conversation. The thoughtful touches—like a dedicated kids' nook and a genuinely warm staff—make it a place where families, remote workers, and coffee lovers all seem to linger longer than they planned.

Church Street Coffee & Books in Mountain Brook is one of those places that instantly feels like home. Nestled in Crestline Village, it combines the comfort of a neighborhood coffee shop with the charm of a small independent bookstore. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with cozy seating areas, shelves lined with books, and a relaxed upstairs loft that’s perfect for reading or getting some work done. The coffee is consistently solid — smooth, flavorful, and crafted with care. Whether you’re in the mood for a classic latte, a cappuccino, or just a simple drip coffee, it hits the spot. But the real star of the show is the famous Breakup Cookie. Warm, gooey, and perfectly balanced with chocolate and a hint of sea salt, it’s easily one of the best cookies in the Birmingham area.

A great spot for coffee and a little work. The kids' "nook" was a great idea and appreciated. Even though it's also a bookstore, it was not too quiet to have a conversation - with a person or on your phone/buds.

This is a charming little coffee cum bookshop. And gels very well with the vibe of this neighborhood. It has limited sitting inside and outside.

I had a dirty chai tea latte, a little sweet but great taste. The baked goods were delicious, I tried 3 different ones. Staff were friendly and the place is really cute in a nice part of town.

Hard to beat a bookstore coffee shop! This is a cozy little one in the middle of Crestline Village with nooks to hide everywhere. They serve Nonfiction Coffee and have a good menu including the famous breakup cookie. Spot for kids to read & draw, a 2nd story that’s always quiet, and nice little patio space. Staff has always been very nice every time I visit as well. Today just got a black coffee and flavorful.
