Crema's Take

Sovereign Grounds has mastered the art of making you feel genuinely welcomed, whether you're ducking in for a quick espresso or settling in for a slow afternoon—and their flavor work is exceptional, with reviewers raving about actually tasting real cardamom and orange notes in their drinks rather than just sweetness. The space strikes that rare balance of being cozy enough for lingering conversations and family time (complete with a play area for kids) while staying sharp and efficient for the morning rush, all backed by baristas who seem to actually enjoy their work and the people ordering from them.

Best mocha I've had in weeks - asked for orange cardamom & was thrilled I could ACTUALLY taste the flavors & they tasted pleasant & real. This is not the case in many shops. Bless. Loved the cozy colors, big area rug, wood finishes, gorgeous plants, & clean bathrooms. The children's area was unbelievably charming. How kind of them to provide such a space!! Was severely disappointed by the quiche - completely lacking flavor. Like zero salt, mostly potato - needed actual EGG, cheese & *seasoning.* Hope they'll improve it & next time I'll try a different snack. Loved the look of the sausage-egg muffins & the potato salad; very cool they have such an impressively large variety of snacks that all actually look appetizing (honestly most coffee shop snacks are the saddest, most basic, dry pastries ever), & some with protein! Can't wait to return.

I love Minneapolis! The neighborhoods are so interesting. So many cool places, but once in a while you stumble on a keeper. One you want to return to each time you are in the Twin Cities. This amazing meeting place has excellent concoctions (and a pretty good foam artist in residence.) Being a rural girl, I went to the wrong end of the line and NO ONE yelled at or shamed me. The man taking orders kindly and quietly explained that the end of the line was over there. He was polite and helpful when I ordered and told me it happens to lots of people. Excellent Chai Latte! Get something from the bakery section. I had a scone!

First time visiting. Met a friend who has a baby. It is kid friendly as it has an area for them to play in. When I first walked in I was greeted. Went to the counter, I was immediately helped and the guy was extremely friendly and worked on my drink immediately. I got a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. Delicious. My coffee was good and my friends iced tea was good.

The first time I visited Sovereign Grounds the shop was in a smaller corner of what is now the welcoming space for one of the finest coffee shops in Minneapolis. When I returned for a quick dark roast coffee weeks later Hakan, the owner, remembered my NAME! Friends tell me they’ve had the same experience - being greeted by name every time they stop in. Sovereign Grounds is a spacious restaurant filled with comfy furniture (much of it made by Hakan). You’re likely to see a pile of tiny sneakers where toddlers shed their shoes before rushing into the kid’s play area. You’ll see Moms and Dads enjoying delicious coffee drinks and home made pastries. Stop in and treat yourself! Talk to Hakan about reserving the back room for small meetings. (And don’t forget to ask the owner about his pictures of grandkids!)

This is by far the best local coffee shop I've had the pleasure of frequenting. The service is hands down, incredible. The baristas are friendly, and have wonderful banter. H, the owner, is my favorite person in our neighborhood. The drinks are delectable and delicious. Also, the playroom has huge dinosaurs. I have never had a less than perfect visit to Sovereign Grounds. Would highly recommend!
