Crema's Take
“Sister Pie is a warm Detroit institution where exceptional hand-crafted pies and pastries are just the beginning—the real magic happens in their intimate baking classes where owner-instructors like Lisa and Gus generously share their famous recipes, creating memorable experiences that extend far beyond your visit. The team's genuine kindness shines through whether you're grabbing a blueberry rhubarb pie for the holidays, browsing their baking tools and signed cookbooks, or settling in with a slow coffee and a rosemary cookie among fellow pie devotees. This is a place that feels like a gathering spot for people who actually care about quality ingredients, craft, and connection.”

I have shopped at Sister Pie for treats and baking tools, purchased signed cookbooks and attended classes. The team there is kind and knowledgeable. The baked goods are outstanding but even more - the work that the bakery does is meaningful. They are thoughtful in the way they build their menu and flavors, and in the way they participate in and build up the community. Sister pie is unique in their approach to business with their focus not just in profit but also on people and planet. Where we spend our dollars matters - and Sister Pie is an excellent place to support. Not only do you know you’re supporting something purposeful - the classes and treats can’t be beat.
I woke up early on thanksgiving and got in line for pies. The owners were very nice and brought us out coffees. I was shocked to see the price of pies were $45 but figured I would try them since I had been waiting for an hour. The cranberry pie was passable, but not great. The apple butter pie was just not good. The filling was bland and I only had a few bites before putting it aside. Not worth the price.
I took a pie making class recently and had a great time! Lisa was so kind and patient with our group and walked us through their famous Salted Maple Pie recipe. I’m so excited to share it with my family for the holidays and will be back!
If you have the chance to sign up for any class, especially the savory hand pie one, DO IT! Had such an enjoyable time learning from Lindsey and Gus, who were great instructors on making the all butter dough. Bought this as a birthday gift for a friend and it was the perfect experience gift. Each person in the class also got a goodie bag of treats to try. Sister Pie will be a go to destination in the future!
I came here after reading so many great reviews about this place. Everyone was very friendly the place itself was super cute. I got the rosemary cookie, blueberry rhubarb pie and the $5.00 mystery bag. Everything so far is amazing. So I will be back again. The prices were reasonable.
