Downtown Detroit's best specialty option, in the historic Griswold building. Dessert Oasis roasts its own beans and runs a full espresso and filter program. The name sounds like a dessert shop. It is very much a serious coffee operation. Good for a morning stop before whatever brings you downtown.

Madcap is a Grand Rapids institution that opened a Detroit location in the downtown core. The sourcing is excellent, the espresso program is what you'd expect from one of Michigan's strongest roasters, and the Farmer Street space has its own character. Order the single-origin filter if it's on the menu.
