The Great North

Crema's Take
“This cozy espresso-focused spot has won over the neighborhood with genuinely excellent coffee and a staff that treats every order with care and consistency, whether you're ordering a perfectly pulled shot or one of their standout matcha drinks. The bright, welcoming atmosphere makes it an ideal place to linger over a sandwich and cappuccino, and regulars praise the kind presence of the team who seem to genuinely enjoy making your morning better. It's the kind of place that quietly becomes part of your routine—reliable, warm, and worth the visit.”

Amazing espressos, lattes, and mochas. This shop is very small and friendly. The workers are very knowledgeable and consistent. The matcha and hojicha are also amazing. They have plenty of specialty blends you can purchase and take home as well. Get a great coffee for cheaper than Starbucks and without all of they syrups and sugars slowing you down!
I disagree with the reviews saying this place is cold/bad vibes/bad coffee - I think people are mad about taking over the previous place but Great North has great coffee. I’ve never had a bad experience with a barista, if anything they’re super accommodating to special requests. They also have one of the best breakfast sandwiches I’ve had (pesto something? Amazing). I like that it’s quieter inside. Idk, to each their own, but don’t discount this place because of the bad reviews.
Great sandwiches!! And the Americano is excellent. Nice music, friendly staff. Love our neighborhood coffee spot.
This place has consistently satisfied my needs. I started a new job and this cafe is nearby, so I did a lot of my online trainings inside. They have wifi that can be accessed with the password on the outside of the coffee machine. I've tried a variety of their food and drinks as well and have been consistently met with the quality. My favorite drink of theirs is their lemongrass and hibiscus tea. Their matcha is fine, you have to ask for any sweetener in it, but the matcha seems quality. They'd serve it in a cute tea steeper and cup. Also, the ham and cheese breakfast sandwich is delicious. It's a bit slow in the store, but I don't know why. This is a pretty solid cafe in NW Portland.
coffee, pastries and sandwiches are excellent. my favorite is the staff, all have a kind prescience, that feels warm like my morning coffee. the interior is bright and sunny in the morning with beautiful natural wood and brick features. good AC, good wifi and power outlets. good place to work from
