Crema's Take

Tucked into Long Beach, Jug Band Coffee and Tea feels like the kind of place where regulars become friends and layovers turn into unexpected highlights—their baristas genuinely seem to care, and the matcha and chai deserve their own devoted followings. Beyond stellar espresso drinks, they're known for homemade bagels (the jalapeño cheddar sourdough is basically legendary) and creative offerings like vegan pizza that elevate the typical coffee shop snack game. Whether you're grabbing something quick or settling in for hours, there's a warmth here that keeps people coming back.

I couldn’t make my flight connection and was stuck here for a day. I’m glad I did. I ended up here to meet up with some friends and saw “matcha and chai” on the menu. Apparently they’re separate menu items, but I just asked if they could do both. They were awesome enough to try it and here I am writing a review of how blessed I am to get stuck in LA with a matcha & chai latte.

I love Jug Band !!! My roommates and I have made their jalapeño cheddar sourdough bagels our ultimate comfort food .. ily Jug Band! Their baristas are also very helpful and kind! I was recommended to have a rose coffee one time and absolutely loved it! Anyways, hit it up! You won’t regret it 🥯☕️ (yes, the photos are all from different visits.)

This is the best coffee shop in all of LB. The drinks are good and they have really delicious food; especially the homemade bagels and vegan pizza! The staff is beyond delightful, especially Maria. They also have people just coming in and hopping on the piano or jamming with some former strangers, now friends. I can’t say enough about it and am glad it’s walking distance from me.

My girlfriend and I visited Jug Band Coffee this past weekend. The drinks and pastry were genuinely good, and the person who took our order was friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, the service that followed didn’t match that initial impression. When my girlfriend’s tea came out, I asked if it might be for us. The server replied, “I don’t know, but that order is for Mark.” It ended up being my girlfriend’s drink, and while mistakes happen, the interaction felt more dismissive than helpful. My pour-over still hadn’t arrived after about 15 minutes, so I checked with another staff member. She mentioned she didn’t see a pour-over being made and didn’t follow up. After waiting close to 30 minutes with no updates, I asked for a refund. The staff member asked what I had ordered, and as she was preparing to process it, the pour-over happened to come out. As someone who has worked as a barista before, I would have appreciated an apology or acknowledgment of the delay, but none was offered, and no refund was issued. The drinks themselves were good, and the shop wasn’t extremely busy, which made the lack of care more noticeable. I’m sharing this in hopes the team can improve, because the product has potential—it just needs the service to match.

It’s not really great for gluten free but that’s normal for coffee shops. I like the steamers: hot milk of your choice with a syrup of your choice. It was perfect to warm up with after a long day. The music plays softly in the background and you can have a conversation easily. They also use Joshua Tree Coffee which is a great coffee. Service was helpful and polite.
