Crema's Take

Tucked into historic downtown El Paso in a charming two-story shipping container setup, Coffee Box is a casual spot where you order at the ground-level window and settle upstairs to sip with a street view. Their matcha is a standout that earns devoted fans, and while their creative specialty drinks (like spicy mango and pistachio lattes) are ambitious, the quality can be inconsistent—so stick with what locals rave about. The vibe is distinctly laid-back and local, with patient staff and a slow-sit atmosphere perfect for lingering over pastries and light bites.

Whoever said it’s good is lying 🙃 we ordered the Iced pistachio latte and the color was off and it’s not good at all and I also ordered the spicy mango and it was super sour!! My husband got a mazapan frappe and there’s no taste at all it taste like a straight water with a little hint of milk. I can’t lie with this. I don’t know whether it bcos I didn’t tip?! But I was gonna tip with cash after i got my order but as soon as I got my pistachio latte it looks off and I didn’t put tip at all (which is not really mandatory to do that) tbh it’s better to just spent that on starbucks across the street if you ever crave some coffee. I’m so bitter cos it’s a same price as starbucks and we didnt even touch our drink 🥲 such a waste of money..

I love Coffee Box! Everyone should try their matcha! It's definitely my favorite drink on their menu, although I definitely miss all their seasonal holiday drinks. It's a great local business that I hope continues to do well! It has helped me get to know El Paso better since I moved here! Everyone should support local businesses like this incredible coffee shop!

You order at a downstairs window and then carry your drink upstairs, where there is indoor and open seating with a street view. A large coffee costs $5 and is prepared using a dripper, not an espresso americano. Despite this, the coffee tastes commercial and closer to gas station coffee than a specialty cafe. Prices are not displayed anywhere, so you have to ask before ordering.

Right in the heart of historic downtown, CoffeeBox is one of those perfectly random finds that ends up being exactly what you needed. Built from two stacked shipping containers, the bottom level is your cozy order window with all the hipstery charm, and the top level opens up to a chill rooftop-style patio overlooking downtown. It’s the kind of place where you can sip a matcha latte (mine was so good), snack on avocado toast or a bagel, and just vibe while the city wakes up. They open early—6:30 a.m.!—and stay open late, serving not just coffee but agua frescas and other fun twists. Great pricing, good energy, and overall just a great post-workout pit stop.
