Crema's Take
“This roasting epicenter doubles as an educational hub where you can witness coffee being crafted at its source, with visitors raving about behind-the-scenes tours and exceptional espresso that converts people into lifelong fans. The quality-focused approach earns serious credibility among coffee enthusiasts, though fair warning: it's a working roastery rather than a full cafe experience, and customer service can be inconsistent depending on who's behind the counter. If you're willing to venture into their space for the real deal—expertly pulled shots and a glimpse into specialty coffee at the production level—this is the kind of place that proves why Chicago coffee lovers keep coming back.”

I am absolutely thrilled with this coffee company. It was recommended to me by a friend who really knows his coffee, and he told me this was the best quality and best value in the United States. I placed my first order and was blown away by everything, the flavor, the packaging, the service. Even the customer support, which I had to contact due to a small issue caused by my own mistake, was outstanding. They were so helpful, quick to resolve, and went above and beyond. I couldn’t leave without sharing my appreciation for every aspect of this company. I’ve become a loyal fan and truly wish them continued success, because they’ve managed to achieve something rare: a perfect blend of passion and excellence from start to finish, fair pricing, and impeccable quality.
Terrible online service provided by the ice queen Nichole. So insincere and unhelpful, infact, she hit me with a “sorry you feel that way” when requesting her help. Sometimes it’s not even the what, it’s the how. Wasn’t able to help me with my coffee order that is screwing up my Breville grinder, the espresso roast is so hard the machine is engaging the clutch. I would not recommend to anybody to purchase from Intelligentsia; firstly to spare you from Nichole’s dreadful service style, and secondly to spare your grinder from any damage. Some people were not cut out for customer interaction and I for one would advise you stay clear of Intelligentsia! There are tens of better, friendlier and more humble roasters I can point you in the direction of.
Great tour. We learned a lot about the process. Everyone was very helpful.
Awesome morning at the Chicago Food Film Festival Edible Adventure at Intelligentsia Roasting Works. So cool to get a behind the scenes look at the roasting center, although there is no cafe on site. Very fun morning of foodie film screenings including a great piece about espresso, awesome posters and signage and coffee sacks. Don't usually like my coffee black, but had an amazing Black Cat Espresso, so smooth it didn't even need milk!
Here at the Chicago Food Film Festival, and I just had the BEST Espresso I've ever tasted. Wowza! Intelligentsia fan for life! When in Austin, Texas - get it at Frank Restaurant.
