Crema's Take
“Dolce Mama's is a beloved Salem neighborhood spot where the owner Nick has built genuine friendships with regulars over years of visits, creating the kind of warm, family-friendly atmosphere that keeps people coming back. While reviews are mixed on whether their ice cream is homemade versus Umpqua-sourced, those who love it praise the creamy texture and bold flavors like pistachio with real chunks and rich chocolate, making it worth a visit if you're particular about quality.”

I am incredibly picky when it comes to ice cream, but this place nails it. My favorite part of coming here is the owner, Nick, who I've befriended over the three-ish years that I've returned to this place. It's a perfect spot to grab a cold drink and a few scoops on a hot summer day. I've always gotten extra scoops from this place (not sure why) which is an added bonus. Over time, they've decorated the place and added a small antique shopping area, which I think is very quaint and fits the vibe. The only "downside" is the lack of a public bathroom, but it's a nitpick at best. Not every space needs or even has a bathroom. This does not affect my final score. 4.8/5, it's good ice cream, but I'd feel weird ranking it on the same level as some of my favorite restaurants.
Customer service 4/5 Ice cream 1/5 Other homemade treats 3/5 The false advertising on the sign is the worst part mostly. The establishment no longer makes homemade ice cream, they just serve Umpqua now. If they removed the "handmade ice cream" from the sign on the building I wouldn't have been so disappointed. The brownie had good flavor, handmade. Good portion size for the price. Large serving for just under $5. It's more of a cakey style of brownie with a faint layer of brownie skin, so if fudgey or chewy is your style, just be warned.
This ice-cream is the best. Pistachio has lil chunks in it and chocolate flavor is just the best! I used to go to the place around the corner and once I was heading that way to get my usual and the guy was closing, taking the stuff inside from outside saying “it is never too late for ice cream”…and I thought “ok, I’ll cheat on my usual once”…since then I’ve only been eating at Dolce Mama’s!
Absolutely fantastic. I am picky about my ice cream and milkshakes/smoothies. This place is clean, cute, and has fantastic ice cream. Texture is a 8.5/10, Taste is a 9/10, and flavor profile is a 10/10. Customer service is also great. If you’re looking for the best ice cream experience in downtown Salem, look no further.
