Crema's Take

Bakehouse Charleston is an espresso-focused spot in downtown that earns serious points for its coffee quality and sweet treats, particularly their s'mores bars and key lime pie. While the industrial vibe and service can feel a bit hit-or-miss, the cortados and espresso drinks deliver when you need them, making it a solid functional grab for both coffee enthusiasts and pastry lovers meeting up downtown.

I got a breakfast biscuit with bacon, egg, and cheese. The biscuit was good, but the egg, and bacon were precooked. The cheese was a basicly a craft single. Then the sandwich was warmed in a microwave. McDonald's makes a better breakfast biscuit.

Could be more cozy and tastier. Drinks were way too sweet even though I asked for half sweet and th service was ok. Not the friendliest barista and bakery items were all sold out. Expected more for downtown Charleston.

This is a functional little spot, and while the atmosphere suggests it's way past due for an update, the coffee itself was the saving grace. I had the Cortado, and it was not too bad—it was prepared well and hit the spot. I appreciated the focus on the drink quality. Given the overall look of the place, it won't be my first choice to return, and I'm not sure if I would choose to eat here. However, if you are looking for a quick and decent cup of coffee and don't mind the dated environment, it will certainly get the job done.

If you’re wanting a sweet treat this is definitely the spot! I recommend the s’mores bar and asking for it to be warmed up. The key lime pie is also delicious!! Staff was so friendly and personable. A very laid back coffee shop compared to the hustle and bustle of down town Charleston!! This will definitely be a regular spot for us on our trips here!
