Crema's Take
“Tucked into Charleston's coffee scene, Second State Coffee strikes that rare balance between serious espresso craft and laid-back neighborhood gathering spot, where you're just as likely to nurse a meticulously pulled pour-over as you are to linger with your laptop for hours. The vibe is genuinely warm and unpretentious—fresh plants dot the intimate space, the team is refreshingly down-to-earth, and they're willing to experiment with creative seasonal offerings alongside their reliable classics, whether that's a standout savory waffle or a comforting Sweet Potato Pie latte. It's the kind of place where morning coffee feels like an event rather than a transaction.”

I wanted to have morning coffee, so I stopped by Second State Coffee. It had great decor and a positive vibe. I chatted with the server and ordered two Lattes. One was a hot latte with whole milk and the other was a Peppa Mint latte with whole milk, also hot. Our order came out in ten minutes, and I was ready to go! Both lattes were well-made! The taste was great, and the coffee beans were good. They definitely started our morning off right.
EDIT: amending the stars to reflect feedback from the business and an attempt to correct the issue. Paid $3.50 to add prosciutto and they put one sad little piece on top. I normally love this coffee shop. The coffee is good but this is not value, it’s honestly insulting
I got the “coffee crush” off of the winter menu. Now this was not my favorite thing at all. It was truly bizarre. My friend got a regular coffee and it was bangin good. Perhaps the winter menu wasn’t my cup of tea. Giving them the benefit of the doubt with the review.
Second State Coffee is such a cute, quiet, and quaint spot — the perfect place to relax and enjoy a really good cup of coffee. I tried one of their fall drinks, the Sweet Potato Pie latte, and it was delicious! A unique, cozy flavor that wasn’t too sweet and still had a great, rich coffee taste. The atmosphere is calm and inviting, and the barista was very pleasant and welcoming. Overall, a wonderful experience. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area!
I’ve never had a savory waffle before and OMG soooo freaking good. This place is awesome and wholesome. I love the fresh plants they have around and the team is really down to earth! I’m Gonna dreeeeeam about this waffle
