Borjo Coffeehouse
4416 Monarch Way, Norfolk, VA
Crema's Take
“This laid-back, artsy coffeehouse near ODU has mastered the honey lavender latte and other creative espresso drinks that keep regulars coming back, though fair warning: weekend crowds can get long even with advance orders. The vibe is pure college campus charm with friendly staff who genuinely care, making it an ideal spot to linger over coffee and light breakfast whether you're meeting friends or settling in with your laptop.”

The atmosphere and vibe of the shop is very much college campus coffee shop. Very laid back and artistic. Thats the upside. The downside is that even with ordering ahead I couldn't get around the long wait (which I wasn't aware was the norm until coming to the reviews). Since there was only one person working the register who was already visibly overwhelmed I waited in line to let them know I had a pick up order. I was told it would be 10 min. Which it was but the cook came out with my food and just set it on the counter. Didnt call out a name or an order number, just set it down and left. Since there's a sign that says dont reach over the counter I waited for the still flustered employee at the front to make his way over, notice I was still waiting, or at least make eye contact. I finally got his attention to get my food bagged and handed to me which was probably an additional 10 min that could have been avoided if the cook made an attempt to let the other person know my order was ready or just had it to me...the only person that was waiting at the counter. I realized after the fact that my receipt said my order would be ready at 12p even though I placed the order at 11:20a. 40 mins for a breakfast burrito and a frappe seems a little steep even during a crowd. As for the quality of the food please consider cooking all the ingredients. The raw onions threw off the taste and the overall texture. The egg was somehow dry 😪. The frappe was fine. Im not sure how common the crowd and long waits are or if this is just a staffing issue for that shift but maybe next time I'll catch them on a slow day.
My 3 friends & I went on one of the BIGGEST events to be held @ the Chartway Arena. It was the Spanberger & Obama event. On a day like this, it was VERY unfortunate this place did NOT have ANY bagels & were backed up on bacon. Really!!!!! It was one of the few places open early enough for people to grab a bite to eat before the event. My friends & I all ordered right behind each other. There were only a handful of people in the restaurant. We were the handful, basically. Anyway, it took a good little while for our food. We all ordered basic breakfast sandwiches. Within 20min, 3 of us got our orders. The 4th person with us, literally ordered a toasted McMuffin with a small side. She never received her food. To the point where AFTER we were all done eating & she still had NOT received her food, she requested a refund. Terrible. Why would this place not PRE-Prepare? Why did they not anticipate a large number of people coming in? There were 2 State Troopers who came in after us. They even had to wait more than enough time for their food. Now, my sandwich was good. The coffee was good too. So, the potential is definitely there. To have bagels on the menu and be told there are NO bagels is ridiculous. 15min on bacon, also ridiculous. There should have already been bacon prepared & bring in a vearmer.
So glad I found this amazing little coffee shop. It was within walking distance of the hotel and ODU. One of the best honey lavender lattes with oat milk I've ever had! The chicken salad wrap was perfect for lunch and if you are feeling adventurous try the ube latte with honey. Sweet but not overly sweet. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in the area!
Stopped by a few days ago for coffee and breakfast and it was a fairly positive experience. The service was fast and friendly. The hot coffee was also at a great temperature to enjoy as soon as I received it.
Borjos is my go to spot! They have great drinks, food, and prices and everything is delicious. Their employees are super friendly and handle the busy rushes well. The atmosphere is also so nice and great for doing homework!
