Crema's Take

This Chattanooga institution has earned its 30-year reputation as a beloved gathering spot where the line out the door is practically a feature, not a flaw. Beyond solid traditional espresso drinks and cold brew, Rembrandt's shines for its vibrant outdoor patio atmosphere and thoughtfully curated bakery case that makes waiting feel less like a chore and more like the start of an experience. Whether you're grabbing a quick croissant or settling in for a leisurely breakfast, the consistently warm service and quality pastries keep locals and visitors coming back.

Waited a good ten minutes in line to order, but plenty to choose from in the bakery cases along the way. Enjoyed a fresh Mediterranean salad and Tomato Artichoke Soup on the vibrant outdoor patio, and left with a box full of beautiful pastry items to share later.

Line was to the door when we arrived, but service was quick and we were greeted with a smile! I ordered a chicken salad sandwich on a croissant and it was solid. I got a vanilla iced latte (delish) and I chose a chocolate chip scone from the beautiful pastry case and it was the best scone I've ever had!

What an amazing place. When a place has been around for +30 years and there is a line to wait, you know you are in for a treat. As you wait in a line that winds itself through the inside of the Coffee House and you finally make it to the official line with a divider you very much so get the vibe and understand why people come and why people work here. Just amazing. A counter with endless home made bread, pastries (including GF products - and they take that seriously), merchandise to buy and of course, their roasted coffee variations to buy. A very European feel, if I may say so. The order process is easy, options are plenty for sandwiches, soups, salads and your favorite coffee with (what appears) homemade flavors. Two people alone power the coffee bar and the kitchen is hidden away in the back making all food. A quick number assignment and you find your place to sit with your fresh made coffee and you wait for your food. We had a 15 min wait but saw other food coming out earlier - that was because of my choice to have a hot sandwich, a Reuben - which was to die for. My better half had a sausage, egg and cheese on one of their GF breads. Check out the thickness of that fluffy baked egg layer. Amazing! Last, the staff was amazing, a bunch of super happy people to work together - love that environment to witness. That means it’s clearly a great place to work. Finally, a note on the coffee - very good beans are being used for sure, my Latte (large) was huge and the taste was incredible. See you soon again Rembrandt’s coffee house.

I’ll start off by saying if you want matcha go somewhere else (as a matcha snob). I’ve tried it hot and cold from here and it just isn’t good. This place went downhill a lot. The food and desserts are always good. Recently they have been WAY more sweet and the savory options are more oily but I guess thats just an American thing. The espresso cookie and the croissants are amazing though. However what is most important is how bad the coffee has gotten. The matcha is so bad. It doesn’t even taste like matcha in the slightest. You would be better off going to any other place for matcha. The other drink is a white mocha latte. Do you see how light that coffee is? You would think it would taste like a latte no? you would be wrong. That latte there tastes like a strong black coffee. Ive had my fair share of lattes that genuinely taste like coffee and I can tell you this is not how you do it. My bf who only likes black coffee and espresso shots is obsessed with this coffee because he says it “doesn’t taste like there is any cream in it”. Take that how you will. Anyways. Skip the coffee unless it’s iced and pumped full of syrups and stick with the dessert. Or if you get a hot coffee balance it out by getting an eclair to dip in it.

I had a cold brew coffee with Breakfast Sandwich that was outstanding. Quality was excellent and the portion size was satisfying. We also had the pear walnut muffin which was moist and tasty. We will definitely visit again.
