Crema's Take

Cake & Joe is a Center City gem where impeccably crafted cakes are almost too beautiful to eat—almost. The warm, stylish atmosphere and genuinely thoughtful staff (like Hannah, who'll help you pick the perfect afternoon companion) create the kind of space where lingering over a specialty drink and a slice of their renowned mousse cake or passion fruit dessert feels like the whole point.

This coffee shop is one of my favorite places recently. The first time I walked in, I was immediately attracted by the warm and cozy atmosphere. The interior design is stylish and unique. The soft lighting and gentle background music make the whole place feel calm and comfortable. It is a perfect place for studying alone or chatting with friends. The coffee tastes excellent and you can tell that each cup is made with care. Whether it is a latte, cappuccino, or iced Americano, the flavor is rich and smooth without being too bitter. My favorite drink is the latte because the milk foam is soft and the texture is creamy. Every sip makes me feel satisfied. In addition to coffee, the desserts are also delicious. They are fresh and not too sweet, which makes them a perfect match for the drinks. The service is another reason why I love this place. The staff are friendly and always greet customers with a smile. They patiently answer questions and even give recommendations if you are not sure what to order. It makes customers feel welcomed and valued. For me, this coffee shop is more than just a place to buy a drink. It is a space where I can relax, clear my mind, and enjoy some peaceful time. Every time I come here, I feel less stressed and more positive. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends, because I believe anyone who visits will fall in love with it.

Cake & Joe is definitely a hidden gem in Center City! They have beautiful cakes and great vibes. I was so excited to visit the grand opening of Cake & Joe's new Market Street location today! They have other locations in Pennsport and Fishtown, so this is their third location. They're well known for how amazing their aesthetic desserts are, and honestly, this third location lives up to the hype. The cafe is tucked inside an office building (BNY Mellon Center), so it's a little hard to find at first, but it is 100% worth the hunt. If you get lost once you walk into the building, the info desk in the front can help direct you to where you need to go. Once you find it, it's a small, incredibly cute space with a bright, welcoming vibe. They have several tables for dining in, as well as some outdoor seating if you want to enjoy the weather. They have a surprisingly expansive menu that goes way beyond sweets, offering hot foods, soups, sandwiches, salads, and lots of unique options for coffees or teas. I tried their strawberry matcha latte and their hot mocha espresso, but their cakes are undeniably the star of the show. What's especially cool is that this Market Street location will feature an even stronger focus on Chinese-inspired savory dishes compared to their Fishtown and Pennsport cafes. The owners are from Beijing so their menu beautifully leans into their Chinese heritage by blending classic French pastry techniques with Asian-inspired flavors. As someone who doesn't usually like cake, I am officially a fan. Their creations are right up my alley because they are never dry, and the flavors rely on high-quality ingredients rather than just sugar. I tried the "Who Moved My Cheese" mousse cake, and it was a revelation. They make everything from scratch, and it shows. The mousse was perfectly executed, not overly airy, with a smooth, creamy texture almost like ice cream. It hit that perfect not too sweet mark for Asian desserts, flawlessly balanced by a hint of saltiness from the cheddar. The employees were incredibly nice, and the service was impressively fast, especially for a grand opening! Overall, I will definitely be coming back to try more of their gorgeous cake selections in the future. Highly recommend stopping by!
