The Pit Stop 292 Cafe
361 S Motel Blvd, Las Cruces, NM
Crema's Take
“This beloved Las Cruces institution shines brightest for its legendary green chili huevos rancheros and expertly executed comfort food classics like their standout chicken fried steak, all served by a genuinely warm staff who treat regulars and newcomers alike like family. The Pit Stop has mastered the art of the slow café experience—the kind of place where Angela remembers your order and the whole room buzzes with the kind of friendly energy that keeps people coming back for Taco Tuesday and beyond. Set in a characterful older building with genuine local charm, it's where affordable, award-winning food and unhurried hospitality create the perfect third-place vibe.”

The food and service were truly exceptional. Every dish was full of flavor, beautifully prepared, and served fresh. The staff went above and beyond—welcoming, attentive, and genuinely committed to making the experience enjoyable. It’s rare to find a place where both the kitchen and the service team shine this brightly. I left completely impressed and can’t wait to return!
Outstanding green chili huevos rancheros! Fun atmosphere with friendly staff. Will be back!
Just had an incredible meal at The Pit Stop, and Angela made the whole experience even better. She recommended the chicken fried steak — but not just any chicken fried steak. The Pit Stop version, smothered in gravy and queso (yes, both!). It was hands down one of the best meals I’ve ever had. Massive portion, perfectly cooked, and I barely made a dent in it. The onion rings were just as amazing. Angela was absolutely awesome — super friendly, on point with her recommendations, and genuinely kind. She even let me stay a little after closing and treated my service dog EnKi like royalty. Couldn’t ask for a better server or a better spot. Thank you!
Older building next to ran down motel. Interior was clean but definitely dated. Chips were good, salsa was just right from a spicy perspective but needed salt. Ordered the Flautas with beans and rice. Flautas were covered in queso so you couldn't pick them up, they were too hard to cut with fork so eating them was problematic. Tasted ok but nothing special. Rice was dry and the rice was broken up, beans were a little dry but tasted ok. Not impressed.
FATTEST taco Tuesday tacos I've had in a while! Absolutely mouthwatering! The staff is always courteous to everyone. The food is delicious, affordable and award winning from what their FB page says. Either way, this hidden gem is incredible. I got my food in 5 minutes at lunch too!!
