Five Lakes Coffee
2026 W Main St, Kalamazoo, MI
Crema's Take
“This Kalamazoo favorite strikes an impressive balance between approachable hospitality and serious espresso craft, with staff who genuinely seem delighted to help you find your perfect drink. The spacious, welcoming atmosphere makes it equally suited for a quick specialty coffee stop or settling in for hours, and regulars rave about both the quality of their drinks and the authentic warmth of the team—especially their gift for customization and making everyone feel known. While their espresso-forward coffees appeal to purists, they've also nailed the sweeter, more indulgent drinks that bring people back again and again.”

Five Lakes is a cut above the rest with their quality, professionalism, and talented staff. A special salute goes out to the incredibly kind, energetic, and joyful employee named MARIA. She has a bright future in the coffee industry and beyond. Great employees transform businesses!
They have great customer service, the food is pretty good and the atmosphere is nice. Drinks with a lot of sugar (like the lattes my partner orders) seem fine but the coffee on its own is… not. It just doesn’t taste good. Either they’re using a Scandinavian style super light roast that’s intended to come out more like acidic fruit tea; or they’re under extracting / over filtering during the brewing process. Might be a combination of the two. The end result is a coffee that (to me & everyone else I’ve spoken with) tastes very off balance. This has been my experience with both their light and dark roasts. I’ll stop here if my partner wants a latte, but I’ll skip getting myself a “non fancy coffee” in the future.
Stopped into Five Lakes Coffee after seeing really good reviews online. The place itself is really nice - spacious, lots of tables, definitely the kind of spot that works well for catching up with a friend or getting a little work done. I ordered their popular vanilla caramel latte, but when it came out, it was surprisingly room temperature even though it was labeled as “hot.” When I brought it up, the response I got was just “OK, I’ll remake it for you.” Sounded like it was my fault that I was complaining. First of all, this should not have happened to begin with. I mean the drink was not even warm, it was room temperature. Then I kind of expected a warmer acknowledgment, something like “Sorry about that, let me fix it for you.” Little details like that make a big difference in service, especially at boutique-style coffee shops. The lady did apologize after she delivered the second drink. So I have to give credit for that. The atmosphere is great, and I hope they tighten up on the service side a bit. it could really elevate the experience.
Excellent coffee and smoothies! The staff welcomed me when we walked in the door, and were very friendly. Prices were reasonable, and quality was top notch.
They were real nice & cute coffee shop with nice ppl working inside! I loved multiple size choices and multiple flavors for your latte as well! A guy barista was so nice helping us order for the first time. There were so many tables with power outlets available near by. I’d absolutely come back & recommend to any coffee lovers🤗💯🙌🏼
