Crema's Take
“Nestled in historic Durango, this charming mercantile is a tea lover's sanctuary with an impressive selection of loose-leaf varieties sourced from local purveyors, where the knowledgeable staff encourages exploration through generous daily tastings. Beyond tea, they curate an thoughtful collection of local honeys, biscotti, and wellness items that make this as much a discovery experience as it is a place to linger with family and friends. The genuine warmth of the team—who'll help you find your next favorite blend whether it's a matcha creation or an Apple Crisp—turns a simple tea stop into the kind of place locals and visitors alike return to again and again.”

This lovely mercantile has so many fun, healthy, holistic items, it will be a challenge to accurately describe them, Their products are mostly local, including an astounding array of loose leaf teas, several types of healing herbs, body lotions, different types of honey, vanilla bean paste, cocoa, and essential oils. There is also the traditional souvenirs like kitchy knick-knacks, and T-Shirts, with tumblers designed to support the Child Mind institute and Orphanages in Mexico. The staff was very friendly and answered all of our questions. There's a comfortable seating area where you can people watch as you sip your delicious hot or cold beverage. The design of the shop is whimsically fun as they had plants in gutter pipes along the walls near the sunny windows. There are large, old fashioned barrels where tea, honey and other items are on display, and it is evident that someone spent a great deal of time arranging their wares so that they maximize space, while allowing for an airy and relaxing environment. When perusing downtown Durango, the Old Barrel Tea Company is a must-see!
Authentic tea shop in historic Durango. Knowledgeable folk on staff, abundant tastings. As a family of five, cleared out with multiple teas and honeys for two Besides knowledgeable advice and suggestions by bar staff, everything was packed for travel home. Relaxing place to sit and chat too.
We stopped in on 11-20-23 and Gabby was so amazing and sweet! She was helpful and friendly. Helped us out with a tea to try for the day. It was an Apple Crisp. The tea was so good, we came back the next day to get some to take back to Missouri with us! Certainly recommend Old Barrel to visitors and locals! If you haven’t tried them you are missing out! They even have a website so you never have to go without your favorite tea!
I never visit Durango without stopping here! They usually have 4 samples brewed up to try and the staff is so friendly! I highly recommend stopping here 🥰 being from NM I LOVED the green chili biscochito!!
Great selections of tea. We sampled the three for the day and ended up buying a ton of them. The shop has a charming atmosphere. The proprietor was so friendly and welcoming.
