Crema's Take

Cushman Market and Cafe is a beloved Amherst institution where regulars return for years to enjoy hearty, well-executed breakfasts and sandwiches—think blueberry pancakes and a standout turkey Reuben—in a genuinely welcoming atmosphere. Whether you're grabbing a quick coffee and pastry or settling into their lovely patio for a leisurely meal, there's a relaxed charm here that feels like coming home, complete with the occasional train rumbling by to add character to your visit. Their thoughtful drink menu goes beyond standard coffee, offering matcha and other options that appeal to the whole community, from UMass students to families and longtime locals who've been missing it.

Cushman’s Café is my favorite spot to grab a sandwich and enjoy it there or take it to go. I’ve been going here for years—back when I was attending college at UMass and living on Leverett Road, and now whenever I go home to visit my dad in Shutesbury. This place has been open since 1892, and the creaky wooden floors add to the awesome atmosphere. The market is great as well, they have so many cute knick-knacks and a fantastic selection of beer! This post was made in connection with a Toast Promotion!

This is one of the best places for breakfast or lunch in Amherst IMO! Their turkey Reuben is delicious and all the breakfasts I've had here are also! Next time I'm going to add bacon to the breakfast burrito though. Also, MOCHA LATTÉ. The line can get pretty long on the weekends and holidays so be prepared. Edit: Yesterday I got the breakfast burrito with bacon and it was Chef's Kiss 💋

Cashman Café is really nice! They have a great drink menu with coffee and matcha options, plus some tasty breakfast choices. We had the blueberry pancakes, which were really good but the wait was sooo long, around 40 minutes just for pancakes. It was on the weekend, so maybe that explains the delay, but still something to keep in mind.

Great little spot to stop for lunch. The sandwiches were so good! Very welcoming atmosphere and lovely patio to enjoy the summer! The train came by while we were out on the patio too!

Truly one of the best breakfast/sandwich shops in the area. I used to live in Amherst around 7 years ago and miss this place so much but got to stop in this weekend after a long hiatus. The breakfast sandwiches on a roll are so satisfying and the matcha is really tasty. Almost everything here is. Don’t skip the baked goods. And go look at their salt and pepper shaker collection.
