Crema's Take

Thornes Marketplace is a beloved downtown Northampton destination that blends a charming café with an eclectic collection of independent shops, making it as much a place to linger over coffee and pastries as it is to browse for gifts and unique finds. The attached bookstore café creates that perfect slow-sit atmosphere where locals and visitors alike settle in for a genuine community experience, backed by reliable parking that makes the visit hassle-free. It's the kind of place that feels woven into Northampton's cultural fabric—a nostalgic hub where you can taste something good, discover something interesting, and actually want to stay awhile.

This is a great marketplace in downtown Northampton. It has a great bookstore/cafe, candy shoppe, nutrition shop, Herrell's Ice Cream parlor and more.

There is not a wide selection of stores, and the stores even then are just millennial run businesses. Which means overpriced knickknacks, mark ups, expensive clothing made of polyester with a tip option at the register. Wouldnt recommend, but at least theyre welcoming.

I come here every time I visit my sister. Even if I'm just spending the night. A lot of unique stores. There is also some great food. And convenient parking.

I love going to Thorns to buy gifts. There are several shops that are perfect for gifts, as well as great treats for yourself. I also like the arcade, and the cafe. The parking garage is safe and relatively inexpensive. The first hour of parking is free and every hour after is $0.75 so you can easily park and walk around Northampton. This is a great spot to check out when you’re in the neighborhood.

Took a step back in time from when NoHo was the place to be for small central MA towns. Spent a lot of time in late teens & early 20’s making the drive to the coolest small city & Thorne’s Market was always 1st on list of stops. While a lot of the stores might have changed throughout the 20+yrs since I’ve been back and they had to do fundraisers to keep it going from what a longtime employee at Cedar Chest said. So glad they are thriving again, filled with shops & offices & an arcade in lower level. It was so nice to hear all the people walking along the beautiful creeky hardwood floors & come on that stained glass. I can’t wait to go back!
