Levante Grill & Cafe
2501 Wabash Ave, Springfield, IL
Crema's Take
“Levante brings genuine Mediterranean warmth to Springfield with housemade food that goes beyond typical cafe fare—their gyro wraps and beef shawarma are clearly labor-of-love dishes, while loaded fries and creative sandwiches (think falafel alongside Philly cheesesteaks) show they're not afraid to blend traditions. It's the kind of clean, spacious spot where families linger over mango desserts and friendly service, making it feel less like a quick coffee run and more like discovering a neighborhood gem you didn't know you needed.”

Food is great Place is clean Portions are huge for the plates and loaded fries We also tried the Philly cheese steak and falafel sandwiches It was delicious
My husband and I decided to stop in and try Levante, as we have had Mediterranean in many different states on vacations, and were excited to see some so close to home. I was most excited to find out that they make homemade Baklava, NEVER frozen! It was delicious! So crispy and buttery and rich, as it should be! And it was fun to try some other types that I had never had before. We also ordered the fried green tomatoes, beef Shawarma and Gyro burger. The fried tomatoes where a bit bland compared to all the other well seasoned items. They did come with ranch but I grew up with southern fried green tomatoes and sauce just was not used or needed. The fries had a deliciously different seasoning on them that I had never tasted before and honestly might ask if I can try on the tomatoes next time we go in. The Shawarma and Gyro meat were perfectly cooked and seasoned! The burger was juicy and well seasoned as well. Plenty of food and way more then we could eat. We will defiantly visit again!
Beautiful atmosphere and friendly staff. We got the gyro wrap, loaded chicken fries, and a mango dessert. Everything was delicious, highly recommend the gyro wrap. Mango lovers should definitely try the dessert as well.
Hesitant on writing this because this is a new business. We decided to try this being new to Springfield. I've enjoyed numerous Mediterranean style restaurants in my travels. Love the fresh made foods. I ordered the chicken shawarma $12.99 and falafel $5.99. Food arrived and the falafel looked delicious. Now on the other hand the Shawarma was the very flat and thin, definitely not worth the price they charge. I've had numerous shawarma's at multiple locations, especially in my frequent trips to Nevada however this one was a big disappointment. The meat was quite sparse. I felt like they were really skimping on product portion sizes, major disappointment. For the plus side the flavor was good however the meats seasoning was overpowered by the sauce. The falafel was quite tasty, and appropriately portioned for the cost. I feel like the value vs product received was enough to consider other dining options. Hoping they succeed, Springfield lacks in variety. I plan on going back, maybe? Can I recommend it, not at this time. Hopefully my next trip there is a better experience. I'm totally aware of what a shawarma is, I enjoy them regularly at different restaurants I travel to Vegas. Never had one with the lack of meat in it.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Delicious food, excellent service, clean and spacious place. I loved the beef shawarma, and the kids really enjoyed the boneless wings and nuggets. Tasty desserts—especially the mango and lemon dessert. Reasonable prices and highly recommended! 😍🍽️
