Tex's Cafe
23 E 21st St, Kearney, NE
Crema's Take
“This authentic 1952-era diner is a genuine step back into small-town Americana, where the vintage details—from the original cabinet fixtures to the classic tile work—create an atmosphere that feels frozen in the best way possible. The friendly staff moves at an unhurried pace, making it perfect for lingering over breakfast or catching up with locals, and their Facebook specials seem to be where regulars know to look for the best deals. It's the kind of place where you come for the homey vibe and genuine hospitality as much as for a solid, no-frills meal that hits the spot.”

Great small town feel diner, friendly and quick service, keep an eye on their Facebook for specials
Tex's cafe hit the spot for our family. It's a great way to get your day started. Great food how you like it, and friendly service. Would stop again the next time I go to Kearney, NE.
Kearney, Nebraska - the atmosphere of the “Tex’s Cafe” 1952 era “diner” is authentic - from the cabinet fixtures, the ceiling tiles, the floor tiles, equipment & accessories … the service is super-riffic and the food is tasty-riffic - super-servers like “Danielle” & “Cat” (and servers before them) serve up my breakfast & lunch meals each visit with a smile … “Tex’s Cafe” offers the feel of a place that has “Been There, Seen It, Done It!” featuring customers that give the true spirit of a village … the wisdoms of the elders surrounded me and shared lots of “back in my day” stories that had my complete attention .. the stories and interactions made me confident I would know about many locals in the “Village of Kearney” within a short time by eating my tasty-riffic breakfast & lunch meals here on a routine basis … “Tex’s Cafe” is a “Run-A-Way Bill” Favorite diner and has been my personal favorite place to eat when visiting Kearney since 2017 .. “Run-A-Way Bill” was here! … and will return 05.15.25
This diner is a happy step back into Americana. No fast food, but food is on time, tasty and priced right. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and happy to visit for a bit. This is where the locals go, that says a lot! I had corned beef hash and eggs, my partner has a great Western omelet. Worth skipping the chain restaurants!
The food was edible but not enjoyable. Everything needed more seasoning. It seemed a lot of people got the specials so maybe that is the way to go. We ordered from the menu. Not sure I will be back. My experience would have been better had they used the salt shaker more.
