Crema's Take
“Nestled in South Lake Tahoe, this beloved diner captures that nostalgic old-school charm with counter seating and genuinely warm service that makes you feel like a regular the moment you arrive. Their breakfast is the real draw—think fluffy biscuits smothered in gravy and house specials like linguica that locals keep coming back for, though expect a wait during peak hours because everyone else knows it too. It's the kind of place where friendly staff remember your order and the community spirit is as much a part of the experience as the food itself.”

Touted well in the community. Tried it for breakfast with family. Seem pleasant at first. Staff nice and attentive. Food wes meh. Just another Tahoe restaurant on living on borrowed past glory. Has potential to be great and good breakfast is easy, but I guess meh is easier!
The food was delicious. I had the Linguica breakfast special with hash browns, eggs and sourdough toast. I've never had that king of meat before and I'm glad I tried it. My husband and I would describe it as a combination between polish sausage and chorizo. Very flavorful. The staff are polite, helpful and very good at their jobs. I would definitely come back again. I also enjoyed seeing the old photos and other antique items displayed around the restaurant.
While visiting Lake Tahoe for the first time, we had lunch at the Red Hut Cafe. This was my first meal at a restaurant in 2026. It reminds me of an old school diner with the docore. I had the tomato bisque and grilled cheese sandwich and it was so good. Our waitress was fantastic, and very friendly. This is a great place to come for breakfast or lunch when you are in South Lake Tahoe.
We went here for breakfast and already had a long line before our side. Luckily upon having the counter bar side available, we took that side so that we don’t have to wait for another long time. Eggs Benedict 19.50 Omelette with Ham and Cheese 18.00 Coffee 6. 50 Overall with Tips $57.41 We thought the host of the cafe was attentive and friendly alongside Francis - she’s a very warm, attentive, and loving lady who also recommended us to try their special Eggs Benedict. The Waitress took our order for us starting with coffee, Eggs Benedict, and Omelette with Ham and Cheese. Each meal served with hash browns, and mine came with an English muffin too. We waited probably around 10-12mins, the Eggs Benedict came a bit later but not that much different from a wait. What we loved about their breakfast, both weren’t too overpowering with flavours. And that we can simply add condiments when we want to. The only downside was the coffee no kick of strong, bold and good flavour and aroma from the coffee - we felt just drinking flavoured drink. Also the ambience which can be a bit noisy around, especially, we came during the peak hours. We want to give compliments to the staff, the cooks, and the overall service. We’re very pleased with the food. And special mention to Francis, her enthusiasm and energetic presence added value to the Red Hut Cafe. Happy to come back and recommend 🤗
The wait is long but for good reason. The older Host is so fun when she calls out the waiting patrons. Once sat we were warmly greeted. Food came out quick. The biscuit and gravy is heavenly, the country fried steak was delicious, the pancakes were good just too much of a flour taste . Overall the food tastes really fresh. I would definitely come back if I’m in town.
