Crema's Take
“This beloved Oakland institution wins hearts with its genuinely warm service and lived-in cafe atmosphere—think thick ceramic mugs, upstairs nooks perfect for lingering work sessions, and staff who remember the human moments that matter. The dark roast is seriously delicious, the pastries and breakfast menu are solid (though opinions vary on the lunch sandwiches), and it's the kind of place where families, friends, and solo coffee drinkers all feel equally welcome amid the pleasant buzz of a real neighborhood gathering spot.”

Came here for breakfast when I was displaced from my apartment. Ordered a coffee and a parfait. A lady with purple hair smiled, I smiled back. As I walked back to my hotel room down the street, a car ran a red light, a bird shit on an old lady, and a bus did not pick up a prospective rider. It is hard to make homelessness funny. Hmmm, I know a hot chick should walk by without her clothes and tell a couple of jokes... I bet that would offer a bit of relief. Edit: That actually would be nice.
I used to come here to work as the upstairs is a nice spot to get some work done. But the last few times I’ve been there the food has been terrible. The sandwiches had maybe one slice of meat and a thin spread of condiments and the salads were just basic mixed greens with a splash of dressing. The roast beef looked off and grey. It seems like they are cutting corners on the portions but the prices are still very high! I got a cappuccino and a sandwich and it was $28! For that price I expect a loaded sandwich. Very disappointing as it used to be a good cafe.
Great coffee, only "OK" wifi. The dark roast is deliciously dark & they have nice thick mugs that make you feel like you are at a cafe (cause ya are 😀). Nice cafe atmosphere, although a little noisy. Wifi doesn't work at the tables out front 😕. It is OK if you go to the tables upstairs which had some availability even during early lunch time.
A perfect spot to catch up with a friend over coffee and a pastry. They have a fun assortment of food and drinks, and great ambience. The bread pudding wasn’t very sweet, but had a nice crisp outside and felt more special than the usual croissant or muffin.
Farley's East is a lively little place with a good selection of food, coffee drinks and magazines! There are a variety of places to sit both indoors and out. They have a very small box of toys upstairs to entertain littles, which is sorta strange because they don't have any highchairs. But they did have 2 little chairs (for toddlers or older) and a changing table in the restroom. Parking is paid street parking and limited. Music plays in the background, which I enjoyed but don't plan on taking a conference call here.
