Crema's Take

Tucked away in Emeryville without a visible storefront sign, Krispy Joe's is a delightfully quirky spot that punches well above its weight with excellent coffee and creative sandwiches anchored by a playful nautical theme. The pastrami deserves special attention when they nail it—tender, flavorful, and piled high on quality rye—though consistency seems to vary, so you might want to ask locals about the day's execution. This is genuinely a hidden gem worth seeking out, especially if you're craving a coffee paired with something more substantial than the usual pastry, all served with genuine personality.

Can't here on a whim and it was a hidden gem of an amazing pastrami sandwich! The rye bread was crunchy and buttered, the slaw was tangy and refreshing, and the pastrami was tender and flavorful. It all came together in this sandwich and it was so good! Highly recommend!

The pastrami was disappointing. No seasoning, no pepper crust, reheated, and the sandwich was so imbalanced you had to redistribute the meat yourself. Was hoping for more attention to detail for a 20 dollar sandwich.

Krispy Joe’s is a hidden gem! Kinda hard to find as it’s a shame that the city won’t allow them or any business to display a sign that protrudes from the building. Their coffee selections are excellent as you won’t be disappointed. Just look at their menu! As you will notice, Krispy Joe’s specializes in different types of “pastrami” sandwiches for breakfast and lunch. You will not be disappointed as their sandwiches are probably the “best” pastrami varieties I have ever tasted. I was surprised as this was my first time meeting a friend at this establishment. What I did notice was there was no option on their kiosk ordering display to add a “tip” to the total bill. What I did, was leave a separate currency tip, but understand that nowadays, people don’t carry cash with them. Hopefully the owner of the establishment will add this as an option to their kiosk!

Krispy Joes is open thru 7p now!! 🙀 As a fan of both pastrami and Korean cuisine, the Smuggler’s Bowl really called out to me, and boy, did it deliver. For best results, I recommend mixing everything (bibimbap style!) to capture its complex flavor profile. It’s great value for the serving size. I initially started with the intention of eating half and saving the rest for later… yeahh that didn’t happen 🥲 Happy to see this small business in our community and look forward to its continued success!

Great coffee and sandwiches -including breakfast sandwiches - with a twist of sailor and pirate theming before you hit the high seas of your day. I think she said “Ahoy!” with my order. Card only - no cash. Tip via Venmo. Inside air can get a bit kitchen fume-y (they are making this dream work in an older storefront next to Wolf Hound), but there are ample tables outside too.
