Pannikin Coffee & Tea
510 N Coast Hwy 101, Solana Beach, CA
Crema's Take
“This beloved Solana Beach institution feels like stepping into a time capsule, with vintage charm radiating from every corner—think walls lined with loose-leaf tea jars, local gifts, and nostalgic touches that make even window-shopping worthwhile. The coffee itself is no-nonsense and robust, poured generously into cups, and pairs perfectly with genuinely delicious baked goods and vegetarian-friendly food that justify the spacious, welcoming atmosphere. Regulars return again and again, drawn not just by the strong brew but by the unmistakable warmth of a truly independent coffee shop that feels like home.”

I was here for the first time and I'm definitely coming back. The atmosphere, the space, the smell of delicious baked goods it all creates a wonderful mood!
Even if you don't buy anything the place alone is a great time. The coffee is full to the top of the to go cup, no frills or anything just straight strong coffee. Real good stuff too. Plenty of seating across different levels, top floor, ground floor and basement level. All give you different ambiances. On a Monday afternoon this place wasn't over packed but I don't imagine it ever is with people coming and going after coffee. I didn't see too many places to plug in computer by the way. And I didn't detect wifi. That being said, it's nice to sit around and take in the day. It slows everything down and if nothing about the location catches your eye, the fact that this coffee shop repurposed a train station will. Great place to stop by.
Really cool, old-school coffee shop with tons of character. The interior is warm and nostalgic, with walls lined with jars of loose-leaf tea, vintage displays, local gifts, and even free stickers at the counter which is a nice touch. Their tea selection is impressive, and the coffee itself is genuinely good. That said, service was noticeably slow, and the staff wasn’t as welcoming as you’d typically expect from a neighborhood coffee spot with this kind of charm. The atmosphere and product quality are there, but the customer service could definitely match the vibe a bit more. Overall, still a solid stop if you appreciate character and quality drinks, just don’t expect fast or overly friendly service.
Always a great time stopping by the Pannikin! My favorite coffee shop in all of SD. Although I do not live locally like I once did growing up I stop here every single time I’m in town! Great coffee and amazing pastries.
spacious. really nice staff. fast and efficient. all the food is super delicious and accommodating for veggie folks. really love coming here whenever i am in town, and the coffee is strong and delicious as well. wish we had more spots this good in the east coast
