Old World Deli

I have loved coming to Old World Deli for the last 6 years since moving to Bellingham. I could always rely on them for a good sandwich that left my heart & stomach feeling full. I hadn’t been to the shop since early last year and was really excited to grab lunch here with a friend. However, I wasn’t prepared for how much the quality of food and service has changed since I last came in. The lobby has undergone some changes, the renovated counter space looks nice and the imports still have a great selection. Nevertheless, the renovations didn’t sway the promise of a delicious sandwich I was looking forward to. The person who rang us up didn’t say much as we ordered our food, but we still left a decent tip because I wanted to support the business. When our food came out we were sorely disappointed. The quality has dropped immensely, which is such a let down considering the expensive price of their food. My friend purchased a roast beef panini, and it was truly a joke of a sandwich. For $14 (before tax) we felt as though we’d been scammed. There was little to no flavor, creativity or imagination in this washed up excuse for a meal. We hoped the macaroni and potato salads we ordered with it would fix the whole in our stomachs the sandwiches couldn’t fill, but they weren’t much better. I know the owners have split in the last year or so and it really shows in the quality. I wish I had something nice to say, but I won’t be back for another year unless something changes. Please consider lowering your prices or start making your sandwiches palatable. This location that I’ve always loved in the heart of Bellingham has really let me down.

The cutest little deli! Big sandwich menu, loads of fun drinks and huge selection of cute little sauces/pantry items. My proscuitto sandwich was good, but the meat was cut thick so each first bite I pulled out a majority of the meat. Flavor wise was good, but the Torres black truffle chips were AMAZING. Also the Bear and Beaver cream soda - the best cream soda I’ve ever had.

Have had two amazing sandwiches there. The pastrami is to die for. The potato salad was great and clearly made there. People who work there are food craftspeople. Love it. The selection of hard to find and exotic food stuffs, condiments and libations is worth a mention as well. Rare potables. Tinned fish. The best balsamic syrup. A must stop in Bellingham.

Amazing sandwich, great brisket in the pastrami and it was pretty stuffed, the hot mustard lived up to its name, a simple sandwich but the flavors really came through. The mushroom soup was also worth the hype, quite creamy and flavorful with lots of mushrooms. My son Logan loved his sandwich while watching a movie on his phone.

Just steps from the YMCA, this outstanding Deli was my go-to lunch spot for after my workout. The location is perfect, the atmosphere is very inviting, all that brick, the wood floors, the high ceilings, the lively conversations with the many locals gathering here, and the food, well...they have all those awards for a reason! Absolutely incredible flavors, and the freshness of all their products is amazing. I had the Mediterranean Tuna with a tasty and crisp pickle! And a freshly baked cookie... Plenty of wonderful wines from around the globe, and the variety of so many deli meats and cheeses is overwhelming. Delicious food for sure! Highly recommend!!
