Coffee Guy Cafe
6700 North Davis Hwy, Pensacola, FL
Crema's Take
“This Davis Avenue gem pulls you in with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the sight of pastries and cakes that actually look like they were made that morning. While the house blend coffee hits the mark and creative flavor combinations keep regulars coming back, the experience feels like it's coasting on reputation rather than consistent execution. If you're in the mood for a reliable espresso drink and a fresh bagel in a welcoming spot, it's worth a stop—just manage your expectations based on recent visitor feedback.”

★★☆☆☆ I used to root for places like this. There’s something about a small coffee shop on Davis that makes you want to believe in it. You assume the pastries are baked at sunrise in a back kitchen. You assume the food is crafted with intention. You assume there’s heart behind the counter. Finding out much of the product is ordered from BJ’s Wholesale was honestly disappointing. Not because sourcing is wrong — margins are tight everywhere — but because when you’re positioned as boutique and local in a city full of fierce, from-scratch competitors, authenticity matters. Pensacola has real makers. Real bakers. Real grinders. And when you stand next to that, you should stand for something. What really turned my stomach wasn’t the sugar in the coffee — it was the feeling of hospitality without hospitality. After picking up a few Instacart shifts in the TJ space, I saw firsthand how delivery drivers are treated. No tip. No acknowledgment. Just transaction. And that says something about culture. How you treat the unseen people behind the scenes speaks louder than latte art ever will. Coffee is personal. It’s ritual. It’s community. But the experience here feels corporate without admitting it’s corporate — free enterprise wrapped in small-business aesthetics. When the warmth doesn’t match the branding, customers notice. I’m not leaving one star because the drinks are fine. They are. But personality, transparency, and how you treat people in hospitality matter just as much as flavor. Pensacola deserves businesses that embody what they market, like Makers and Alla prima. I hope they lean into that
We went for just coffee and after being there and seeing fresh bagels couldn't resist and had bagel cream cheese 😋 with their house blend coffee which tasted great. It would be great if they add bagel with egg and cheese minus bacon in their menu.
How have we not stopped here yet! When you're searching for a coffee shop in Pensacola, Coffee Guy is a name that's sure to pop up. With multiple locations, including their "Original" and "Underground" spots on North Davis Highway, this local institution has a reputation that precedes it. But like any popular spot, the experience at Coffee Guy is a mixed bag, with plenty of highlights and a few points of contention. Coffee Guy's menu is what truly sets it apart. They boast a massive selection of creative and unique lattes, with a wide variety of sugar-free options—a major plus for those with dietary restrictions or a preference for less sweetness. The "Velma," a white chocolate and raspberry latte, is a fan favorite, as are drinks like the "Snickerdoodle" and the "Redneck Latte." They also offer classic coffee and espresso drinks, smoothies, and teas, so there's truly something for every palate. The quality of the drinks is often praised, with many customers loving the flavor and customization options. In addition to the drinks, Coffee Guy offers a small but satisfying food menu. The homemade chicken salad is a particular highlight, available as a wrap or a croissant sandwich. They also have breakfast items like bagels and muffins, as well as a variety of gourmet cookies and slices of cake. We loved the waffles!!!! The atmosphere is generally described as bright, energetic, and family-friendly, making it a comfortable place to study, work, or catch up with friends. The café is often decorated seasonally and has a homey feel, which adds to its charm. Great gift shop items. We went home with some merch. While the drinks and the atmosphere are generally well-received, a quick search online reveals a very different side of the Coffee Guy experience. The owner, who is also associated with the "Eye Guy" optical business, has a reputation for being a polarizing figure. There are numerous complaints about poor customer service, with some customers and former employees alleging rude behavior, inappropriate comments, and a toxic work environment. The owner has been known to respond aggressively to negative reviews, creating a contentious dynamic with the community. While many customers have no issues, others have had experiences that soured their opinion of the entire business. Coffee Guy is a classic case of a business with excellent products and a problematic public image. If you're a coffee lover looking for a huge menu of creative drinks, the taste alone is often enough to justify a visit. The food is also a pleasant surprise. The drive-thru makes it a convenient option for a quick coffee on the go. However, if you are someone who values a positive customer service experience above all else, the potential for a negative interaction with the owner may be a reason to consider other local coffee shops. Ultimately, the choice is yours, but it's wise to go in with an understanding of both the exceptional coffee and the controversial history that define this Pensacola institution.
Walking into this coffee shop you instantly smell the delicious fresh coffee brewed. Walking up to the counter you can check out their fresh slices of cake they have already packaged for you. This place does not disappoint. I’ve come in 3 times now since I’ve been in business in Pensacola and I will DEFINITELY be back! Friendly faces behind the counter and knowledgeable of their menu. The service was excellent & fast. My food came out nice and HOT and my coffee was delicious! Get the extra espresso shot! It’s worth it. I honestly can’t wait to visit again soon. Skip Starbucks and come here!
Absolutely love this place! So many wonderful coffee options, including fun flavor combinations. Highly recommend stopping here (or at their location across the street) to check them out!
