Crema's Take

Black Canvas Coffee has earned a devoted following for their standout matcha program, particularly their rosewater honey matcha that fans describe as "the best matcha I have ever had." The space itself strikes that rare balance between a serious work spot and a welcoming place to linger with friends, with reviewers praising its chill, rainy-day vibe—though service can be inconsistent and quality sometimes feels uneven across their menu.

I meant to review a couple weeks ago when I went with a friend, and was reminded to today when someone sent me an article on robots replacing humans. Im not a fan of cashless systems, so I will not be returning. Even though the espresso was good in the affogato, I only received 1 scoop of ice cream. I did clarify that there was 2 when I ordered, and the server seemed to fumble over her words, as if to say it will only come with 1, and it did. I would love to give it another shot, especially bc its near the spiritual center I attend and convenient however, the cashless system I'm just not on board with.

Rosewater honey matcha was good, but not good enough to recommend this place. Husband wasn’t fond of the coffee, but the pastries would have been perfect if there hadn’t been a fruit fly buzzing around in the pastry case. My husband and I came in with our dog and were instantly asked to sit outside before we even finished paying. Ok, valid. Understandable. Cashier declined the tip screen before we could even reach to touch it. Weird, since we usually tip, but ok. It wasn’t particularly busy and we were the only ones in line. Other patrons come in with a dog, that is pulling and clearly doesn’t look like it meets the public access standard for a service dog, and they were not asked to sit outside, nor were they asked if it was a service dog. I truly can’t help but wonder if our appearance (young students dressed for comfort) and/or ethnicity had anything to do with this double standard. Needless to say, I will be advising others to avoid this place.

I brought my work with me while I waited for my friends surgery and found this shop right up the street. What a lovely surprise to have found a cool chill place to work. It was raining this day so the vibe was perfect. There is only one strip outlet but there is multiple plug ins so that’s a plus! The egg and cheese croissant was crispy and my first bite I was actually surprise to like the sun-dried tomatoes in the egg-llet? Lol It was really good and I began to enjoy it the more I bit into it.

I am an avid matcha drinker and this is by far the best matcha I have ever had. The rose water recipe is incredible!! I could decide what to eat so we all ordered something different and shared. Açaí, avocado bagel, omelette and almost croissant were delicious!! The açaí was a big size. Reasonable prices Clean bathroom WiFi connection was great Easy parking Nice staff Big windows for great natural light. Fresh smell from all the real plants Didn’t mention the matcha? THE BEST

Black Canvas could have been the best coffee shop in the area if their customer service had not been unkind! I said that because a few weeks ago, my husband and I went to celebrate Valentine’s Day, and we were excited to enjoy our brunch. When our orders were ready, two different waitresses came to us and dropped the plates in front of us. The first waitress called out my husband’s order and delivered it with an angry expression and unfriendly manner, putting his food on the table. A few minutes later, another one did the same with my order. I had never experienced such treatment at other restaurants and coffee shops, and It was very disappointing for me. Since I work in customer service area, I understand they might have been busy with orders and other things. However, my disappointment came from the fact that no one apologized or acknowledged our presence, and they seemed very dissatisfied that we were seated outside. Unfortunately, my experience was not as positive as I expected though. While their food and drinks are great, their prices seem unfair due to rude customer service. I hope they can use this review to improve their customer service manner.
