Laymoon Cafe
616 S Forest Ave, Tempe, AZ
Crema's Take
“Laymoon Cafe brings a stunning Middle Eastern-inspired aesthetic to Tempe that feels both thoughtfully designed and genuinely welcoming, making it as much a destination for the beautiful space as for the carefully crafted drinks. Their matcha and specialty lattes are executed with real skill and flavor, and they balance being a quick coffee grab with the vibe of a place where you can linger, chat, or work for hours thanks to ample parking and a genuinely lovely atmosphere.”

Laymoon Cafe was amazing! The matcha and coffees were really good—perfectly made and full of flavor. The refresher was super good and so refreshing, especially if you want something light. Everything tasted fresh and high quality. The atmosphere was nice and welcoming too. I would definitely come again and recommend it to anyone looking for a great coffee or matcha spot!
Everything about this place is wonderful! The lattes and matcha we got were all so delicious. The avocado toast was so tasty and fresh. The service was quick and friendly. And the space is so beautifully decorated! Even though we live relatively far away, we look forward to coming back regularly!
I really wanted to love Laymoon Cafe because the space is undeniably beautiful. The Middle Eastern-inspired design, decor, and attention to detail are stunning and thoughtfully done. It definitely creates a unique and aesthetically pleasing environment. That said, the experience didn’t match the visuals. The wait was honestly ridiculous — anywhere from 30 minutes to close to an hour just to place an order. There was only one cashier during a busy time, which made the line move painfully slow. It felt like a major operational miss, especially when there’s so much space dedicated to merchandise that could easily be used to add another register and improve flow. As for the coffee, it was really underwhelming. I ordered the tiramisu latte and could barely drink it — I had maybe three sips. It was overwhelmingly sweet, and not in a good way. It tasted like artificial, store-bought syrup sweetness rather than something crafted in-house. For a café charging premium prices, I expected house-made syrups or at least a more balanced flavor profile. Most cafés at this level put effort into that, so it was definitely a letdown. Overall, while the ambiance and aesthetic are a big draw, the actual product and service didn’t live up to the hype. Beautiful space, but unfortunately not a place I’d return to for the coffee.
We stopped here for coffee and pastries and it was an ok experience. The place was packed due to the novelty of being new, but we wonder if this is going to be the norm. The cafe is new and modern with a themed decor, but because it was packed, it wasn't very clean. The service was friendly and very confused and inefficient. By the time we got our drinks, they were cold. The coffee and the matcha drink we got were good, and the pastries, although a novelty for us, were good but not great. Surely doesn't justify the high cost. We had 2 drinks and 3 pastries and paid $40+, to an average of $8 per item (these are north Scottsdale prices). We got the smallest size drinks they offered. Is it worth it? I'll let you be the judge, but we will not return. Way too expensive for what it is. One and done!
Genuinely such an amazing space to have added in the Tempe community. The location is prime with ample parking directly across the street via ASU paid parking. The interior truly makes you feel like you’ve traveled and landed yourself in an exquisite cafe in the Middle East. You can tell the amount of love and detail that went into curating this space and its menu. I’m excited to visit again when the savory menu is available! I tried the baklava latte and upside down strawberry matcha - the matcha had a great sweet flavor from balancing with the strawberry whereas the latte kept me energized for hours without feeling that “espresso shock” factor. As a snack I ordered the honey toast which quickly made me realize I need to add Labneh to my grocery order asap. My friend ordered the fig latte and felt there was a lack of flavor, so there may still be tweaks needed (but this was the grand opening and hectic so I’m sure on a standard day it would be stellar). The menu had several pastries i want to go back for so I will be visiting again! I spent just over $50 on two iced beverages, a pastry and a can of green za’atar. The beverages range from $5-$9
