Stopped in for lunch. The environment was inviting. It felt like a tucked away gem. The staff was friendly and took pride in their craft. I had the tuna sandwich and it was delicious. I also had a slice of strawberry cheesecake. Wow!! What a treat today. Thank you Boerne, thank you Bumdoodlers!!
I don’t understand the hype of this place, or maybe my expectations were too high. I had a broccoli cheese soup, which was “good” a little salty but it was hot and you can tell it was homemade. And half of a Reuben sandwich that I ordered “hot” instead of cold but it was lack luster. I expected shaved corn beef piled on traditional think rye bread with lots of kraut and Russian dressing, pressed for a crunchy outside texture with a hot inside temperature. Instead it was a microwaved sub with what seemed like heb cut deli meat. Kinda disappointing because it really felt like something I could’ve made myself; but you get what you pay for and this place really is affordable compared to bigger establishments. And I’m sure they were busy during their lunch hour (I arrived around 2pm) but the place could’ve used a wipe down and sweep thru after a rush, most tables and chairs had crumbs and the table I was at had chips and pieces of lettuce spread all over the floor. We had a slice of that chocolate peanut butter pie which was tasty, and a slice of cheesecake which was also delicious, but I do wish it was served at a colder temperature so that the texture was firm and not so mushy. I’m sure they put a lot of work into those huge cheesecakes but the texture didn’t do it justice, the texture was more of a “no bake” cheesecake. I’d come back for a $9 day old pie, maybe a slice of cheesecake to take home to stick in the fridge for a few hours before consumption, but that’s about it. Love that everything was homemade but I just wish there was a little more “oomph”.
Had lunch at Bumdoodlers in Boerne, TX with Jennifer today and it was so good! I got the Goobler sandwich with ranch (my usual favorite), and while we were in line some people convinced me to try the broccoli cheese soup. I normally go for the potato, split pea, or vegetable soup, but I’m glad I switched it up — the broccoli cheese was amazing! Bumdoodlers is hands-down one of the best places for lunch in Boerne. The food is always fresh, the sandwiches are packed with flavor, and the homemade soups are perfect comfort food. If you’re in the Texas Hill Country and looking for a great local deli and sandwich shop, you have to stop here.
Great tasting sandwiches - Note hit is not hot it’s mildly warmed and only on bottom half. had a brainstorm - gobbler and old Smokey with few slices of pie too .. chocolate- coconut cream and turtle! Very Tasty - like Grandma made 🥧 highly recommend- will come again! Spots to improve - ordered to go but no napkins were included and very tiny outdated old bathroom for ladies ( we don’t come here for the bathroom!) The paintings of the Main Street on the walls make it quaint!
Always a fun place to eat. Been here many times, but never wrote it up until now. Nice choice of sandwiches and PIES. Service is always friendly (expect to wait a little during most lunch hours as it is very popular, but its worth it). They have some of the best (if not the best IMHO) pies int eh Boerne area and they are reasonbly priced. Parking is very limited in front of the building, but more parking is available out back (back entrance is pictured).
