Grit Coffee - Pantops
610 Riverside Shops Way, Charlottesville, VA
Crema's Take
“This Charlottesville gem has built a loyal following around genuinely outstanding mochas and a thoughtfully designed space that actually invites you to linger—whether that's for a quick morning ritual or a full work session with reliable wifi and ample seating. The espresso-forward approach pairs beautifully with their pour-over options and creative seasonal flavors like lavender, all delivered by a staff that regulars consistently praise for making their day brighter. Beyond the coffee itself, the modern, naturally lit open floor plan with both indoor and outdoor seating creates that rare balance of being somewhere worth the trip while staying welcoming enough that you'll want to return whenever you're in town.”

Whenever I come to Charlottesville, I make it a point to stop at Grit for a mocha. Their mochas are outstanding! The other thing I appreciate is they have places for people to sit and work or read. It seems like so many commercial shops have gotten away from being that 3rd place for people. Besides the coffee being good, Grit is just a comfortable place to be!
Great place for a cup of coffee in the morning. Modern, vibrant atmosphere with friendly staff. Outdoor seating and convenient parking.
To the team here who always makes my day a little brighter, thank you so much for the lovely service, no matter what day I come in or who I see. Yall churn out the best dang coffee in town and I am so grateful for it! Tysm for the cup art yesterday - and yes, I did have to take a sip before snapping a pic. Happy summer to all of you, too! 🩷
A delicious mocha and chocolate croissant served by friendly and courteous team members. There’s ample indoor and outdoor seating. This Grit Coffee location is a shining example for other locations to model.
This Grit has a very nice vibe, large open floor plan, lots of natural lighting, and friendly staff. They do have breakfast sandwich options, and slightly different flavor options such as lavender and honey. It’s in a residential area, so typically very quiet, although right next to a semi-busy road. If you’re a student trying to study or if you’re working from home, this Grit, unlike others, has outdoor outlets that you can use as charging stations if you plan to stay a while. Only drawback is that they don’t stay open very long (close in the afternoon), so make sure to go early if you plan to stay. I got the medium caramel iced coffee with oat milk (no additional charge). Honestly would swap this for a latte - tastes just as good for a lot less money. Also got the egg/cheese breakfast sandwich which is refrigerated but they toast it for you. It’s pretty decent, the English muffin also tastes a bit sweet with a donut-like texture and aftertaste. Not much flavor elsewhere in the sandwich. Overall, would definitely recommend if you are in the area or looking for a nice place with nice scenery.
