Grit Coffee - UVA Corner
19 Elliewood Ave, Charlottesville, VA
Crema's Take
“Tucked into a charming old green house near UVA, Grit Coffee becomes the kind of place that stays open when everything else closes, earning its reputation as a reliable refuge for the Charlottesville community. Their rotating specialty creations—like the beloved Blackberry Mocha and signature High Five—show real creativity beyond standard espresso drinks, and the vibe is consistently warm with good music and friendly staff keeping the energy up. It's the ideal spot to camp out with your laptop on the second floor or grab a pastry and morning roll while soaking in that perfect college-town coffeehouse atmosphere, though you might want to snag a seat away from the railroad tracks outside.”

Today one day post the snowstorm grit is open when everything else is shut down (apart from Virginian). Needless to say its swamped with people, playing viby music and putting coffee smiles on people's faces. On other days, find the notebook of messages on the first floor. If nothing else that will be your company for coffee. Especially recommend reading it by the table that gets direct sunlight in the afternoon. Or the window where you can see the train pass for what feels like an eternity.
Grit Coffee Roasting Co. is always a great stop when I’m in Charlottesville. Their High Five is my go-to—perfectly balanced, smooth, and just the right boost. The staff is friendly, service is quick, and the vibe is relaxed whether you’re grabbing a drink to go or staying for a bit. If you’re making a quick stop, take advantage of the upfront parking—it makes popping in super easy. Highly recommend!
Very cute old green house. We tried the ice mocha with blackberry and chai latte. Both were really good!! The second floor has a lot of seatings but the AC was not very cool
I love Grit Coffee they always have a fun drink. right now it’s the Blackberry Mocha. I also had the blackberry in a latte because I liked it so much and I would definitely get the morning roll again.
A cute college-centric caffee with pleasant atmosphere and strong wifi. 3 outside tables but next to a railroad, be ready for some train noise from time to time. The matcha latte barely had any matcha, I have never seen such light green color (seems it is a general problem with matcha in Charlottesville). The croissants were very chewy.
