Crema's Take

Drift Cafe's Porters Neck location stands out as a full-service sit-down restaurant with a European-inspired aesthetic that feels more like a proper café than a quick coffee stop. Reviewers rave about the thoughtfully prepared food—especially the standout breakfast potatoes—and genuinely good espresso drinks, making it a destination for lingering over a meal rather than grabbing and going. It's become a welcome gathering spot in the area for those seeking that unhurried, higher-end café experience without leaving Wilmington.

We went here this morning because I had been in the past once and liked the food and my coffee drink as well (I got my food to go). Today, I wanted my boyfriend to try it as well because it is super convenient to our home and we were heading out for a while. I’ll say the food was delicious and my drink was as well but the service was poor. There was a long delay for our server to come to greet us (she was on her phone behind the counter as well as other servers who were “working”) and then after we ate, we sat and waited for quite a while for her to come back by. She didn’t so we went to the counter where she was and I asked for a to go box from the counter and then my boyfriend had to get up and go to the counter to pay because she had not brought a check. Anyway, the food and iced coffee were good but the service was very lacking and disappointing.

Took a while for barista to get off a break and make our drinks. Definitely not the same place as Starbucks. Maybe they are known for their food. The latte I had was good. I am not sure what theme of the decour is. Lots of plants. Every time I stop here there is usually not many people here. Nice touch on the cream deco on the latte, see pic.

I was excited to hear that we were getting a sitdown breakfast diner option in porters neck area. My first impression walking up and into the location was very positive, its clean and new and artistcally designed very nice with a blue coastal vibe. Inside was suprisingly big with abundant space. Unfortunately the staff vibe was not warm or welcoming or friendly and thats a big negative for me. I was ordering takeout and I struggled through the menu to find any non fancy traditional type diner breakfast items...way too many greens and vegatables and fancy addittives for my likes but I know many like eating vegatables for breakfast. I settled on the breakfast burrito minus the greens. If you like modernized fancy recipees its probably good but I only ate half. My cappachino was fancy with a design on top but it lacked enough foam I very much am not a fan of the coffee bean they are using. I wish i could say the potatoes were good but the seasoning was again over spiced and I didnt even eat them all. My friend and my wife think the food is good so I think its all about your preferences...me im an old school meat and potatoes kinda guy...leave your veggies in your veagan options and put some simple egg cheese and bacon type options for people like me...and greet your customers like your excited to have them spend their money at your establishment.

Highly recommend. Recently went to Europe and this place reminded us of the higher end cafe’s there. This is a full service restaurant compared to some other locations that’s just coffee and take out. Having a server made it feel luxurious for brunch. Will definitely dress a little nicer for my next visit.

It's a sit down restaurant which is different from their other locations with a lot of amazing menu items. Beautifully decorated, friendly staff, delicious food. The potatoes are out of this world. We were told they do some elaborate process to make them where they boil, fry and cool and then heat them (I think!) which is why they taste so good! I got the salmon benny and it was 🤤
