Sunday mid-morning was bustling. Food options were amazing and ranged from meals to desserts and morsels. Really well developed menu! The food presentations were impeccable and the layout of the cases made sense. We opted for a ham and cheese croissant (hot) and a salmon/avocado croissant (cold). Neither disappointed! Very authentic and really nailed it! We were really happy with our choices. The croissants were not overly flaky nor over buttery. I can't describe it but they were the perfect medium. Chef's kiss! We also picked up dessert for later. After much debate we opted for a chocolate hazelnut cookie and a pan de chocolate. Definitely chocolate heaven and I was elated that the cookie was SOFT! It didn't taste like it was frozen and really screamed fresh. The pan was soft and fluffy... kudos on the fluffy well-distributed bubbles inside! Would we come back... 30 minute drive... endure the locals... zoom around Sunday drivers... abso-freaking-lutely!!! Can't wait! 🎉

Sweet Wheat in Redondo Beach is a thoughtfully designed bakery that strikes a comfortable balance between cozy and spacious. They had a special Buy 3 Get 1 Free Viennoiserie, which came out to 15.35 after taxes. For pastries, that's a great deal! I ordered the Salted Caramel Apple Cake, Kouign-Amann, Almond Chocolate Croissant, and The Pain aux Raisins. I ordered the pastries online and stopped by to pick them up, finding the space lively with several groups both inside and outside. There’s plenty of seating, making it a solid place to enjoy a pastry while working on a laptop. The atmosphere feels warm and inviting without being cramped, and the holiday music added a seasonal touch. The Salted Caramel Apple Cake stood out with its layered textures: a soft, pumpkin-pie-like center and a chewy apple-forward top. Rich and well-balanced, it earns an 8.5/10. The Pain aux Raisins had good softness and plenty of raisins, though the flavor leaned heavily on them alone. 8/10. The Kouign-Amann delivered good interior crispness, but the caramelized top was overly hard, lowering its appeal—7.75/10. The Almond Chocolate Croissant had a pleasing texture, but the almond and chocolate combination didn’t quite come together, earning a 7.5. Would it comes back? Sure, if I'm in the area and craving pastries. But overall, it fell short of making my rotation of pastry shops / boulangerie. Nevertheless, I had a positive experience here.
Sweet Wheat is more than just a bakery; it's a neighborhood treasure. It's the perfect spot for a morning treat, a weekend indulgence, or to pick up a dessert that will truly impress. Go see for yourself why this place has earned a reputation for having the best pastries and croissants around! Jae M.
This is a nice, charming coffee shop by the ocean with tasty French bites. It’s clean, has friendly service with menu prices a little bit on the high side. Dietary restrictions: The items are clearly labeled with allergen information. It makes it so much easier and safer to choose what to eat without guessing. Parking: There’s a small lot behind the shop and some street parking, though it can be tough to find a spot when it’s busy. Kid‑friendly: They have stylish highchairs (without seat buckles) and not much space inside for kids to move around, but the terrace feels more kid‑friendly. Outdoor seating: The outside area is lovely with a nice ocean breeze, but it can get windy at times or a bit noisy from the nearby road.
