Crema's Take

Tucked away in Salem, ACME Cafe is a lovingly executed vintage Americana spot where scratch-made everything—from biscuits and gravies to house-made jams—tastes like genuine care went into every plate. The retro diner aesthetic strikes that sweet spot between nostalgic charm and contemporary cool, and watching the team craft your breakfast at the counter adds theater to an already memorable meal. Fair warning: this place has earned fierce loyalty from repeat visitors, so expect to understand why folks are willing to drive from neighboring towns just for another visit.

ACME Cafe is a masterpiece of vintage Americana, comfort food, and amazing breakfast!! The theme is carried out very well throughout the establishment with a hint of newness and even coolness tied to the vintage American decor. There’s even an old gas pump and a desert display. The service is excellent!! on point on time despite being busy. As I walked up to this place mid morning on the weekday, I was wondering, why is it so busy do people even work when I walked in I knew why. The vibe is upbeat without being loud or busy. The food is amazing! Absolutely the best ever comfort food, and breakfast! It was like somebody’s auntie called grandma, and they both started working from scratch as angels played harps and sang! The food captured the essence of comfort and appeared to be made from scratch. The chicken fried steak was obviously hand pounded and hand, battered the potatoes, cut manually. Biscuit from scratch and to top that off, homemade preserves or jam. Not too sweet not too tart just perfect to allow the flavor of the biscuit to come through. Avocado toast was a healthy portion and executed brilliantly with the perfectly ripe yet soft and spreadable avocado. This place is a MUST GO!! even if you have to go out of your way. You could sit at the bar in a booth or at a table. There is also outdoor seating when the weather is right. Parking was plentiful. Someone else you need to know before going, nothing just go!

Wish I'd found this gem sooner. You can absolutely taste the love in the food. The scratch biscuits, gravies, jam and sauces are delicious. I'll be making the drive from Oregon City down here as often as I can. The chicken fried chicken is a must try along with a biscuit. Best breakfast I've been to in a while and we go out all over alot. Don't sleep on this spot!!!

It was an interesting experience. The atmosphere felt unwelcoming, but more than anything the service was meh. Server gave us our check not even 10 minutes after serving us our food. Mind you they were not busy. The server also forgot to write down a very simple request that we had (Sub pepper gravy for sausage gravy). Not once did our server check in to see if we needed anything, not even water. They just seemed completely uninterested. We just felt like we didn’t belong. Could be that my partner and I are people of color. But I will say the food was great, and the strawberry margarita was good as well. And it is a cute spot.

I am surprised this place doesn’t have higher ratings. It’s hands down one of the most epic places to eat! I’ve been here 4 times over the past 6 months, and my family still goes on about how tasty the food is. The french toast is out of this world, chicken fried breakfast and chicken sandwich are perfectly cooked with huge portions, a lot their biscuits and gravy is amazing as well. It is a small restaurant so during peak times there can be a wait, which I will gladly wait for perfection lol. ❤️

I came here with my friend for breakfast and when we came in we immediately were sat at the bar and watching them make everything made my mouth water. Our waitress Kat was awesome. Very sweet lady, took very good care of us!! Once we ordered we got our food very quickly even tho the place was packed and the cooks were doing what seemed like a million things at once. Not to mention my food was amazing I got the classic French toast with a side of bacon. 10/10!!! The mimosas are good as well and cheaper than any other place I’ve been!! I’m very impressed with this place! The service(from everyone) and the food and the atmosphere!!! Marcus the cook also gave samples of all the gravies to my friend I was with which was awesome of him!
