Crema's Take

Motivat Coffee Roasters is a cozy Oakland gem that takes its pour overs seriously, with rotating single-origins like Ethiopia and Rwanda that deliver bright, nuanced cups alongside a creative seasonal menu (think their acclaimed Polvoron Cappuccino). The hole-in-the-wall vibe belies a genuinely welcoming atmosphere where friendly baristas and quality pastries—pillowy cinnamon buns and European-style treats—make it feel like a neighborhood gathering spot worth seeking out.

I tried the winter seasonal Polvoron Cappuccino today. It wasn’t quite my personal preference, as it leaned more toward a milky flavor, though I can see how it could be a good choice for those who enjoy that style of coffee. At $8 per cup, it felt a little pricey for me, and the foam wasn’t exactly what I was expecting, but overall it was still a pleasant experience. I’d be happy to come back and try a regular latte next time.

The staff here has always been very friendly on my visits. The food and drinks are tasty and there is a wide selection of savory and sweet dishes/snacks. There are lots of teas and many coffee options. It stays busy as people seem to enjoy being here. It’s a cool spot!

Super fun, creative rotating menu and friendly baristas. Kind of a literal hole in the wall, but there's reasonable outdoor seating. Definitely worth the occasional trip if you're seeking coffee in Oakland!

Been living 7 years in the bay area and I MUST say its the best coffee I have had in all this time while in Oakland. The atmosphere is fantastic and so is the staff!!

We’ve got two pour over - Ethiopia and Rwanda. Both had a slightly acidic taste and delicious! The pastry, cinnamon bun, was so good. Soft and not overly sweet. Very tasty. It felt like European-style bread. Despite only two seats available, we still enjoyed our coffee on site. Staff was very friendly.
