Circus Cooperative Cafe
31 Putnam Ave, Cambridge, MA
Crema's Take
“Circus Cooperative Cafe is a genuinely community-minded spot where the cozy, couches-and-hangout vibe takes equal priority with quality coffee and excellent sandwiches like their beloved Oldboy. Beyond the usual cafe experience, they stock free masks, tests, and hygiene supplies for patrons, plus community resources—the kind of thoughtful hospitality that transforms a coffee run into feeling like you're part of something bigger. Whether you're settling in for hours with your laptop or grabbing a Mt. Auburn sandwich and a latte, the friendly staff and warm interior make it feel more like a living room than a commercial space.”

Super friendly, cosy, and community-focused spot. They're stocked with free covid tests and masks, and other personal hygeine stuff for folks who need, and always have flyers/posters for interesting campaigns and events going on in the area. There's also free WiFi, seats where you can use a laptop (and others where you're asked not to), and an air purifier in the middle of the space. Aaaand the coffee is really tasty!
Lovely space—great food (I got the Mt. Auburn and devoured it), excellent community vibe, and so many resources offered to patrons. Definitely coming back to support this space and will try to be a regular.
We had a latte, hot chocolate and chocolate croissants. Everything was really good! They also sell a high quality organic extra virgin olive oil.
Love this place! The Oldboy sandwich is one of my top sandwiches across Cambridge and that's some tough competition. Great drinks, pastries, and staff as well! Wait can be a bit long if a gaggle of tourists appears but that's life
Coziest couches in Cambridge (so far). I'm shocked Circus Coop isn't miles more popular than some other cafes in Cambridge, the interior feels like a mix of 'hangout spot' and cafe with some great local-inspired sandwiches and a good selection of drinks. I'm always partial to a cooperative, but in this case everything is executed well and consistently; no one I saw, from when I entered to when I left, left dissatisfied or grumbling. The bagel is mediocre, but the Kouign Amann and Cherry Mocha were both visually stunning and delicious. This is the spot I would recommend for those around Harvard Square who want a better, calmer atmosphere to that of the pseudo-chains of the area.
