Crema's Take

Global Place is a beloved Somali spot on Redwood Road where the kitchen turns out genuinely exceptional proteins—tender, succulent meats paired with fragrant rice that keep locals coming back and leave visitors wishing they'd discovered it sooner. The authentic hole-in-the-wall atmosphere, complete with a bustling crowd and the music of Somali being spoken around you, makes every visit feel like a genuine cultural experience rather than a tourist stop. With reasonable prices that yield generous portions, friendly service, and convenient parking, this is the kind of neighborhood gem that rewards adventurous eaters looking for something real.

Amazing food! Seriously, this food was so delicious. We had the combo chicken and beef with rice and the goat with rice. The proteins were all succulent and tender. The rice was fragrant and fantastic. Friendly service! Tables could have used a cleaning.

Very much an authentic, hole-in-a-wall experience. I felt like a tourist because I was the only one speaking English most of the time. I had the Chapati with Fish, and the fish was very good. The Chapati was good; it’s like a tortilla from cafe rio but thicker. Very filling and worth the $12.

If you live in Salt Lake and haven’t tried this place, you’re missing out! It’s located on Redwood Road in a little plaza area with parking in the front. It’s a very busy place that’s always flooded with people. On one side they have a market, and on the other, the restaurant. We always take our food to go because it’s busy and the area is a bit small. Kamal is the owner, and he is very generous. The first time we went there he gave us a few sambusas and black ginger tea on the house. They also include a banana and a bottle of water free with every meal. He was very hospitable. I suggest you order before you go as it can take them some time to prepare the food, but it is definitely worth it! We always get the chicken soukar with rice, as well as the goat meat with rice. The rice is very fragrant and appetizing. We LOVE their green sauce. It’s so spicy and delicious. They give a lot of rice—it lasts us two meals! Even if you don’t know anything about Somali food, you should still stop by. If you’re afraid to try anything else, you can’t go wrong with the chicken soukar and rice. You won’t be disappointed!

I just Googled places to eat near me and thought Somalian food sounded good. Boy, am I glad I did! For an extremely reasonable price, I was given enough food to last me two meals (I guess I wasn't as hungry as I thought I was), and that food was absolutely delicious! Everything was good, but the rice, gosh, the rice I could eat every day and be very happy about it. Excellent customer service. Thanks for a great lunch!
