Buddy's Bagels
4065 S Tamiami Trl, Sarasota, FL
Crema's Take
“Buddy's Bagels is Sarasota's most earnest attempt at New York bagel authenticity, though regulars note the shop has lost some of its magic since switching from boiling to steaming their dough. The everything bagels with two-sided toppings and flagels (flat bagels) remain standouts, best enjoyed in a casual spot that's as much about quick weekday fuel and morning meetings as it is about chasing that perfectly chewy bagel bite.”

Came for lunch. Got Nova Lox bagel sandwich. Solid lox, onions, tomato, capers and cream cheese on an everything bagel. Overall tasty traditional Noxa Lox bagel combo with decent sized portions. The combo came with the sandwich, pickle and chips. The food hit the spot and reminded me of a good east coast Jewish Deli but in Sarasota Florida. Would recommend to stop in and give it a try.
💔So disappointed. They used to boil their bagels like authentic NY bagels. Their kettle broke so now they steam their bagels. They now taste like generic bread from the grocery store since that’s the same method. NY bagels are not steamed. They ruined the Lox & Egg location and the classic recipe they literally handed over to Buddy’s. Now we have to look elsewhere for authentic NY bagels. If you like good NY bagels, this is no longer the place to go.
Buddy's rules! Best bagels in Sarasota area, closest to New York style. Only place with flat bagels (flagels), plus they put a generous amount of toppings on both sides, which makes the bagels very flavorful. The staff are also very nice!
I've been a few times. Nice place. Very pleasant people. The bagels are great! I have tried a few different one, but the everything is my fav, & I LOVE when they have seasoning on both sides. It was completely covered, SO GOOD!
What used to be my go-to bagel shop in Sarasota, is now an empty shell of what it once was. Call the previous owners whatever bad names you want, but they ran a well oiled machine. The bagels were fresh, tasty, were the right size and had just the right amount of schmear (cream cheese). On this most recent visit (I haven’t been back since they changed hands and the word of mouth wasn’t great), I was surprised to find that most of the display cases were empty with a single tub of cream cheese and some cold cuts. The baked goods didn’t look very appetizing. The t-shirts seemed a bit tacky. This place would normally be filled with people enjoying their meals and on this visit it was mostly empty. The service was the only thing that was decent, the cashier asked how my day was and the lady who prepped my bagel was very enthusiastic. The bagel itself didn’t taste fresh. It was also smaller than what they used to be. I paid for extra cream cheese and felt like I received what should be a normal amount. Overall I feel like this was not worth $4.50 for a hard bagel with “extra” cream cheese. Unfortunately it looks like Sarasota has lost the only great bagel shop in town.
