Crema's Take
“Koala Bakery & Café has quietly become a beloved fixture in Okemos, drawing regulars who appreciate its genuinely calm, grounding atmosphere and thoughtfully executed drinks like their standout Peach Green Tea and specialty boba. Beyond the beverages, their house-made breads and pastries—soft, fluffy, and lovingly crafted—paired with light lunch options like their praised Chicken Teriyaki Rice Bowl, create the kind of comfortable third-place where you can settle in with your laptop or linger over matcha without feeling rushed.”

Koala Bakery & Café is one of those rare places that quietly becomes part of your routine before you realize how much you need it. The space feels calm, welcoming, and grounding, perfect for slowing down. My go-to comfort meal is the Black Pepper Rice Bowl with double chicken (no onions for me). It’s filling, flavorful, and consistently good. The kind of meal that truly hits the spot after a long day. My favorite drink is the Passion Fruit Green Tea with mango and strawberry popping boba. It’s refreshing, well balanced, and I love that the sweetness can be adjusted. The flavors complement each other perfectly. For treats, the egg tart is not overly sweet and absolutely satisfying. The strawberry bread is my daughter’s favorite and always a hit. Beyond the food, this café is a peaceful place to sit, write, and breathe. I really miss spending time there and will definitely be back soon. Highly recommend. 💛
Me and my partner got chocolate mousse, tiramisu, and strawberry cheesecake. I don't know what was wrong, but it tasted/felt old. The flavor in the tiramisu and cheesecake was good and the mousse was rich, but mousse seemed to have lost its fluff and the cake it was on top of was dry, the cheesecake was stale, and the tiramisu kinda tasted like a dairy product that has separated and all what was left was the solid part. We couldnt have a more than few bites. I am assuming that this place is maybe known for their good bubble tea, and hot kitchen stuff.
Bought the Mango Crepe Cake slice and took it home to eat, I was shocked to see that there was mold on the top while I ate a piece off. The crepes looked so good in the display and cost a lot just for me to be given a bad one. Hope I don’t get sick from the bite I ate. ✌️
Peach Green Tea is where it's at and the Chicken Teriyaki Rice Bowl is AMAZING! I often come here for lunch and 10/10 would recommend it to anyone that likes tea and tasty treats. The bread selection on the counter is lovely and they're so delicious and fluffy. The display case of cold treats have a rotating selection of absolutely stunning desserts. The staff are always quick, efficient and friendly.
We love coming to Koala and getting their boba and bread. Their bread is soft and fluffy, and the boba is always well cooked, contrary to some of the other boba places in East Lansing. My favorite is the golden soy and the strawberry bread. Their house koala spice blend on their wings was so good, but they took it away. My boyfriend is not a big dry rub fan, but says he has never had such delicious wings. Please bring it back Koala! (The photo is from the other Koala location, but they are both equally as good)
