Motor Oil Coffee Albany State Street
136 State St, Troy, NY
Crema's Take
“Motor Oil Coffee on Albany State Street is an espresso-focused spot that does solid specialty drinks like their Honey Racer Latte, though the execution can be inconsistent and the atmosphere could use some polish—a little background music and more attentive service would go a long way. The pastries and light food are quick grab options, though portions can be surprisingly modest for the price. Staff friendliness varies, but when they're on, they're genuinely helpful, making it a decent neighborhood option if you catch them on a good day.”

Cortado was decent but not great. Barista sat and listened to a show on their phone very loudly. WiFi was not working.
Nice café. Maybe they can put some background music. Waitress was a bit cold.
I went in for coffee and a bite. The bite..... Egg sausage and cheese on a croissant $8. Smaller in diameter than a hockey puck. The height was less than an inch. If I rolled out a donut hole it may have been bigger. The coffee.... I had my own Yeti mug that she used. It was filled from a pump carafe. When I tried it, barely warm. I asked if she would be making more. No was her response. I asked, when do you close... 2 she said. I thought to myself, you have a cold carafe of coffee that is supposed to last 90 minutes. Not expecting any business.... Why stay open? She offered to throw the coffee in the microwave. I reluctantly agreed. She grabbed a 6oz cup. Heated that much and poured it back into the cold coffee. Barely changed the temperature. I said thank you. Went outside. Took the lid off... Tossed it across a snow bank. Went to Alias. If you go, I'd suggest going earlier in the day maybe. Or ask when they serve the coffee hot. If you are hungry, actually hungry.... You may wish to go spend $8 on something more filling... Somewhere else.
I am not a coffee drinker so this isn’t a review for that. Employee was super nice. However, I was given a blueberry muffin instead of a chocolate chip, that being said it’s not a bad blueberry muffin I just don’t like blueberries. Food there is small for the price but fairly good for it being microwaved I had the sausage breakfast sandwich it was barely 4 inches across.
Easy to order and pretty quick, I ordered the Honey Racer Latte (honey lavender latte, and a Sausage Egg & Cheese on a croissant. The latte was pretty good, not overly sweet. The sandwich was good but a little smaller than I would have liked for $8. Quiet and indoor seating. Friendly service.
