Crema's Take

This downtown Portland gem takes boba seriously, sourcing high-quality teas that actually taste like tea rather than just sweetened milk, with rare varieties you won't find elsewhere in Maine. The calm, introvert-friendly vibe and genuinely warm staff create the perfect refuge whether you're meeting a friend or settling in with your laptop, and their strawberry lemon tea and pillowy egg tarts have inspired genuine devotion among regulars. Next Tea strikes that rare balance of being both a specialty tea destination and a welcoming neighborhood hangout where families, students, and tea enthusiasts all feel equally at home.

Next Tea is hands down the best boba shop in all of Maine! You can actually TASTE the tea and the teas they use are high quality with many varieties you can’t find at any other boba shop in the area. As far as I can tell, they don’t use powdered mixes and the flavors are more refined than your basic honeydew, taro etc. The boba and other toppings are also excellent. Boba texture is perfectly chewy - not mushy or chalky. They offer non-dairy milks and let you adjust the ice and sweetness level. Even their 100% sweet level is not overly sweet in my opinion, but I usually go for 75% sweet with light ice. My favorites are the 3 Sisters Milk tea: tea flavor is rich and delicious and the 3 toppings have a fun variety of textures; and the Super Fruit Tea: so flavorful and refreshing, plus you can snack on the fruit after. The cups and packaging are super high quality - I’ve gotten tea delivered on DoorDash and they package everything very securely - plus the super adorable logo! If I could change one thing: The pastry for the egg tarts is underbaked in my opinion. I generally LOVE egg tarts/custard tarts, so I was excited to see them in the shop, but I probably wouldn’t order again unless the pastry were improved a little. For the people complaining about the taro: this shop specializes in real, fresh ingredients to make high quality drinks. There are dozens of places nearby serving taro powdered drink milk tea so just go there instead if that’s what you want!

was here with one of my besties :) it was very quiet when we went which was a blessing to us both because we are both introverts. the two workers (one of them had pink hair that was awesome !!) were so so kind and patient to us both. they had kpop playing on their tv and primary collectibles decorated the area. atmospheric and the vibes were cool. the drinks themselves were amazing as well. i got the strawberry matcha and my bestie got a taro drink. they also gave out free stickers for us both! love this place & their boba came at a great price tooo (imo ofc) my 1 final favorite thing about this place is their reusable cups!! super awesome

I was in downtown Portland with my daughter and we came across this cute Boba shop. The shop including the bathroom was very clean. The people inside working were very nice. I got a lychee tea and my daughter got a brown sugar milk tea with boba. We also purchased some of their egg tarts. All which were very yummy. We definitely will be back. I hope they add more bakery items to their shop as well.

A cute boba tea shop on downtown Congress Street. I love the environment here. Good for families with kids. The staff are very friendly. I like egg tart and bbq buns. I will try their cakes next time.
