No Plates Coffee
12 John St, New York, NY
Crema's Take
“Tucked off John Street, this intimate espresso-focused café has earned serious acclaim for their creative matcha drinks—the Matcha Koya and seasonal matcha cocktails are standouts that even West Coast matcha enthusiasts rave about. The real magic lies in the warm, personable service: baristas like George are genuinely engaging, the owner takes time to explain every detail of their exceptional desserts, and the whole vibe feels like a genuinely caring third space rather than a transaction.”

As a girly from the West Coast (SoCal-- who arguably knows matcha better than the East Coast) this place was amazing. I got the Matcha Koya— outstanding! Robust umami flavor paired excellently with lychee. I can’t wait to come back and try more drinks my next trip! Staff was very friendly and service was crazy quick! I’m sitting in the shop as I’m writing and I’m tempted to get another!!
Had their seasonal white rum matcha and it was delicious! Not too sweet, and the rum was the perfect amount of subtle. It was a tiny bit colder than I would have liked, though. The downstairs space is kind of small but they do have an upstairs area with seating, though I didn’t go up there so I’m not sure how big it was.
Addictive Desserts & Great Vibe! A truly exceptional coffee spot right off John Street! The atmosphere is small, pleasant, and focused on high-quality specialty coffee and matcha drinks. But the real reason to visit is their desserts served in cute, grab&go glass jars. I wasn't even planning on getting a dessert, but the blueberry coconut chia pudding ended up in my hand and vanished before I realized it—seriously delicious and made with top-notch ingredients right there in the shop. The founders are friendly, passionate, and even speak Russian! Five stars for quality, concept, and those addictive desserts. Highly recommend checking them out!
George is one of the most personable and bright hearted baristas I've ever encountered in the city. Easy to talk to and makes an amazing iced latte! I loved their cake pop too with the dates.
I had such a great experience here! The café is very clean and the owner was so kind — he even took the time to explain all the desserts in detail. He knows some Korean greetings too, which made me feel really welcome. Among all the cafés I’ve visited in New York, this is definitely one of the cleanest and nicest. Most importantly, both the desserts and coffee were absolutely delicious! I’m sure Korean visitors will love this place. I’ll definitely come back again! 😊
